Re: Front brakes
OK for front pads, but the rear hoses aren't right for your Type 3. It's a swing axle and uses Type 1 swing axle rear hoses. The parts swap info http://www.vwtype3and4club.org.uk/_docs/type3and4/partswap.htm says the single circuit disc brakes hoses for Aug 66 - July 67 are the same as T1 (Beetle) ...

Re: Front brakes
Thanks for the info
I'll have a look at the pipes but I'm pretty sure its single. I'll also measure the pipes to be sure.
I too think its just the 1 pipe collapse, I've had it before on my bay. But if 1 has gone the others wont be far behind.

Front brakes
A couple of questions regarding my front brakes I have a '66 Polish import, it runs 4 stud wheel pattern with discs up front, will this have been factory or and upgrade to beetle brakes at some point? I have an issue where the steering snatches quite violently to the right when you apply the brakes,...

Re: Front Shocks
They seem to last forever, but they're not the same as Type 1 or 2. I'm not sure of the difference, and I expect old ones have lost a bit of performance anyway. The problem usually comes in removing them - the sleeve often stays on the bolt/stud due to corrosion, and needs careful cutting off. If t...

Front Shocks
I have been looking around for new front shocks and its becoming a bit confusing!
Can anyone confirm what shocks I can use on the front? Bay ones, king and link beetle ones etc or canyou use the rear ones?
Thanks,
Alex

Beam rubbers???
Noticed a gap where the beam is clamped on, presume these rubbers have had it. Are replacements available anywhere? http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh632/Calamity_Al/45C74FAE-C44A-4DAD-8D69-27D2A3D808AE.jpg http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh632/Calamity_Al/4DA86D10-4926-4809-9326-5BAEBFD658A...

Re: Anyone fitted a Vintage Speed Type 3 exhaust yet?
Yes I was hoping to find an aftermarket one as a cheap temporary measure, hence not wanting to cut or bend the apron.

Re: Anyone fitted a Vintage Speed Type 3 exhaust yet?
Are there any other aftermarket exhaust solutions out there? Preferably ones that can be used without 'modification' of the rear apron

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
What you describe is the 6v and 12v stud spacing. Baring in mind how difficult it would be to modify it, I go with my first thoughts. Perhaps its been chopped about in an attemot to lower the dynamo enough to get it in. Question is, did you buy the correct housing from action? Mike Well there's a q...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
I also picked up a spare fan housing at action so last night thought id compare what was on the car to the one I picked up where the generator mounts. So I was right about the studs for the strap being to close together. On the car they are 4 1/2 inches apart, and the one I picked up they 5 1/4 inch...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
I have wonderd if I had a blend of 12v and 6v bits, the large front pulley and bits of scrap wedged in got me wondering! But actually, I don't think it is.

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
Not sure if this should now be a different thread, but its all part of the same journey so think i'll keep it all together here, and if anyone has the same issues in the future, they may find this useful! The generator is becoming a real problem. Even with the previous owners bits of metal wedged ba...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
Interesting link, thanks Now worried as I don't recall seeing any spacers. Was a real pain getting the cooler back in, but I ran it for 15 mins and no sign of a leak. Next problem was getting the generator back on. Was a real pain, almost like the 2 studs were too close together. Previous owner had ...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
Hi Thanks for the reply I finally managed to get the cooler and its currently on soak, will give it a blast in the morning and start putting the whole lot back together. I really think this is the problem, I cant see how any of the cooling air coud have got through. I'm reasonably confident with the...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
Update- Finally managed to wiggle the tinware up enough to get a look at the oil cooler and the bottom half of it is really caked up with gunk. Presume this wont help the cooling :/ Is it cleanable and reusable? Any ideas what could cause? Obviously would say the seal but the fact its just the botto...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
Trying to get this overheating sorted so I can take the car to Action on Friday I revisited 1 & 2 by removing the fan shroud, the rod is not connected to a flap as there is no flap there. I can get my fingers on the actual fan. I know this is not ideal, but clearly not the cause of the problem. So I...

Re: Type 3 Thermostat
Thanks for the reply - The engine seems to run fine and pull well on the 009, just gets too hot, I do have a vac advance dizzy but the vac advance was too big so wouldn't fit. I've looked on 3 and 4 but there was no spring and from what I could see, no flap. I will have to investigate the other side...
