Re: 412 Variant estate build.
First step is always the hardest, once you start seeing shiny new metal welded in after a days graft, its a great feeling.

Re: 1967 VW Variant
Its refreshing to know that there are other vw enthusiasts every bit as mad as me when it comes to saving a rusty old type 3. We always save them no matter what

Re: 1967 VW Variant
Thanks lads. Yeah it turns out the car is rattier than i thought. I had some thoughts on scrapping it, and then i thought, to hell with it, i'll carry on and save it. Then mosied on for a few weeks, and discovered both heater channels needed replacing, along with work when i took off the rear wing. ...

Re: 1967 VW Variant
Once all the bulkhead areas were ready to trial fit the inner sparewheel panel , and the front clip, I motored on. Once i was happy with the fit up, it was time for the welder, and crossed fingers that all would work. Considering I had to make one of the fuel tank/suspension mount sections, I knew i...

And once the left side was done, I moved over to the right, and rinse repeat, hey presto. These are some pics taken during the process.

Re: 1967 VW Variant
Good work that man, but a 10 minute crank!? That poor starter. Agh Broady.....I.m not that cruel :D I meant during intervals, a total reasonable cranking to get the oil around the engine. ;) Its been a while since my last visit, but between a new kitchen I made for the cook, and a boiler replacemen...

Re: Max advance setting
On the ignition switch can someone tell me if its the same as a beetle switch. I know some suppliers are going to say" they are all the same"
But I would prefer to get that advice from a type 3 owners who knows whether they are or not.

Re: Max advance setting
Nice one, its now set at 7.5 degrees btdc and running beautifully with plenty of power. It was having an issue with starting when it was hot, but I think I have now narrowed that down to a dodgy ignition switch that I totally forgot to deal with months ago.........well I was having too much fun driv...

I am just doing a tune up after hitting the 1500 miles since the top end rebuild. All running well thankfully. I need to refresh my foggy braincells. My engine is a 1641 cc engine number T 1069935, its has dual solex stock carburretors and an svda distributor. Dont ask me the number as I dont know a...

Re: Beetle Tailpipes
I know that sound well, its a soft kind of whistleing sound that increases with acceleration, but not sharp and shrieking. Its more associated with a correct setting of the carb than what tailpipes you have. I had it on a H30/31 single carb fitted to a vw beetle 1300 engine. When you had your engine...

Re: 1972 fastback. nwe 532k
I just finished installing a wideband oxygen sensor and controller to check the AFR of my dual solex's. Its working well, and I have them dialled in to the correct AFR for idle on my type 3 . Just need to monitor the lite cruise values as well as the wide open throttle values to see if my jets need ...

I got my new external sun visor from Vosca in the Netherlands. Quality is top notch and a great bit of kit, and easily fitted.
I also picked up a boot rack from Revo, originally from an MX 5

Took it out for a spin today, and ut was a different car, it went like a bird just floated along the road.
Next step is to install an AFR gauge and sensor to properly monitor the fuel ration, removing the speculation of tuning by ear.

Re: Dissy
So back to basics. I took off the rocker cover to confirm that I am actually on number 1 cylinder at top dead centre. All good here. Check the dissy to where number on is pointing to. Rotor is pointing to 3 o clock looking at the engine, and number one on the dissy body is at 6 o clock. Took dissy o...

Re: Dissy
Of course this nevr came to light when I was rebuilding the engine using the 009 dissy that was on it when I got it. Its only now that the vacuum can is making an appearance. I just had another look at it with a good flash lamp, and the interference is so slight, but its enough. I might have to do s...

I just checked my engine number for timing details, and it should be 7.5 degrees before top dead centre,
so as it is its a nice bit out, but the 205l is listed for my engine.

Re: Dissy
My engine has not been messed with, its had a topend rebuild by me. Its a dual carb stock solex setup, and originally had a 009, with a small hesitation. My can is at 10-12, and the gear in the engine is at 60degrees but not 100% sure if the large segment is towards the fan. When the dissy is in and...

I have decided to bin the 009 dissy that was always on the fastback, and go back to the original SVDA distributor that should be on it. But the svda I have is a little tight on the space with the vacuum can. So my question to you aficionados is, what distributor numbers are you running with on a sto...
