Auxiliary Heater
My mechanic won't fit my heater, says its a potential bomb that could go off, does anyone know of someone that could get mine working properly, so I can show any mechanic that its working safely on a bench, so they agree to fit it? I realise that the engine and gearbox might have to be removed again...

Re: Stanford Hall club display, Sunday 6th May
Oh well, missed the boat for the 50th year of the 411/412, looks like my Tropic Green 1973 412LS Variant may be on the road by then, I'll park outside and steal the from show there, ha.

Friction plate size for AN Code Engine
The engine swap in my 412LS Variant is going ahead next week, it currently has a CB Code 1700 in it from an Early Bay, which we're told should be a 210mm, but as we're fitting it into a 76 Bay we're told there might be an issue with the clutch, which might or might not be 215mm The AN Code engine to...

Re: Glass Type 3 & 4
Lets not knock the idea yet, lets see what Pilkington have to say, I'll not knock it on the head just yet.
In the meantime, if anyone is reading this, I need a windscreen and both door glasses, PM me please.

Re: Glass Type 3 & 4
I think if they made the tooling they'd only need to make them as and when someone wanted to buy one, they make new straight side glass for £140 approx, so I imagine proper curved side glass would be around that price each, but I've yet to get this confirmed.

Re: Glass Type 3 & 4
Well I'm looking for a screen and left and right door glass. Are the people you mention listed on this forum? I've been in contact with Pilkington Auto Glass, and obviously they still do new windscreens for both type 3 & 4, but for door glass, side glass, and rear hatch they only make straight glass...

Re: Rear hubs redrilling- 4/130 to 5/130 Fuchs
Drilling and tapping is likely to cost upwards of £70 a corner, with the possibility of weakening the original casting, there's the story of a guy that did this and ran them for a year without incident, then one day at 30mph the studs ripped out of the hub. I'd have thought it easier, cheaper, and s...

Glass Type 3 & 4
Has anyone got details of a supply of second hand glass initially for a 411/412 Variant?
What sort of prices would I be having to pay for the various second hand glass?
I realise you can still get new front windscreens.
Cheers.

Re: 412LS Variant...how much is it worth?
Cheers Dave,
Apparently he's got plans for it as a works van, and thinking of putting a Golf Diesel engine in it...
I've asked him to make me an offer, lets see if the earache will be abated.

412LS Variant...how much is it worth?
Hi All, I don't normally ask but on this occasion I just don't have a clue. What is a SORNed Spares or Repair 412LS Variant worth, with no engine or gearbox, no auxillary heater, no glass, no fuel tanks, and no door handles/cards, no external lights? Has a V5 obviously. The wife is giving me a lot o...

Re: Mmm... which car is this for?
This one was sold to me second-hand as for a type 2, and buying new is around £150. I can't remember, I think £80, but what you say is slightly annoying as I fitted a Nordic Early Type 3 tow bar (which uses extended brackets which includes bolting onto the engine mounts as well as the bumper), to my...

Re: Mmm... which car is this for?
Unless of course I have to drill the bumper brackets to fit...
What has thrown me is most of these tow bars use the bolts of the bumper brackets to bolt on to the rear chassis...
Aww well...Something to puzzle over!!!

Mmm... which car is this for?
Sold to me as a Type 2 late bay tow bar, but after repainting and offering up there's no way...the additional metalwork just puzzled me as they form a plate and bracket that appears to attach to the rear valance, but I'd never do that. I thought Type 3 or maybe 4, but unsure. Just one picture at the...

Gaskets, carb to inlet manifold, and manifold to engine
In the middle of changing the oil cooler on my 73 Squareback... what a faff. Anyway, suffice to say, carburettors are off, distributor, generator, vacuum pipes for the dual port engine manifolds. On taking off the carbs, there seems to be more gasket under my nearside carb than the offside one, whic...

Re: Fuel shut off valves for 32 PDSIT?
I found that Carburettor Hospital stocked the G50 12v as NOS, so bought a pair for £40 each, plus delivery.
Their email is chipmork@btconnect.com, to determine whether they have the part (picture exchange, etc), payment is over the phone by card on 01702 203286

Hi All,
Mine are getting on a bit, with the LHD side sometimes being faulty, anyone know of a source of these, I'm after a pair for my Square.
Cheers

Re: Towbar & Cover
Mine's a rare early Norwegian Tow Bar, had to modify the Europa bumper to fit, but the tow bar extends the bumper brackets, fitting in between and becoming a part of the existing through bodywork bracket that supports the bumper. I looks very much like a Westfalia but obviously isn't, and is unusual...

Re: Clear plastic front indicator lenses for 411/412?
I was looking for ten people to make it viable, but no-one responded, and the cost would have been high even then, I've since gone down a different route, but if a pair of lenses became available at £40 or less I'd probably buy.

Re: Clear 412 front indicators........
I understood this Norwegian guy needed at least ten people to make the idea of clear lenses viable, and even then the pair of lenses might be £110, he couldn't find the ten people. Certainly clear lenses would be attractive, although as I'm going down the route of having running lights within these ...

Type 3 centre pull throttle linkages
Hi, Just searched the archive but not found any reference to this The ball and socket joints on my control rods seem to be loose with wear, and tend to fall off on occasion, reducing me to driving with one carburettor, and whilst this may be more economical, clearly it's inefficient. Does anyone hav...
