Re: Type 3 clocks

My clock is the same and never goes into place properly, and therefore loses time because the springs earth the body.
I don't know about different clock bodies though.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Thanks for the oil coolers Peter. Gave the engine a good clean, so a bit more progress, but it's painfully slow. I really need to pull my finger out next weekend and get on with it. https://i.postimg.cc/qRH0GKbY/9-DQWY7-SGS-Sy5-D4-K20l-Hd-A.jpg I'll strip it down to a long block and then pull the he...

Yes, I'm taking the softly softly approach and using grips to work the shaft back and forward.
No success so far though.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

OK, thanks Peter.
I removed the circlips and washers and administered copious wallops earlier after dosing with WD40.
Didn't know whether heat would be OK, but I'll try that tomorrow.

Re: Headlight Bowls

I would hazard a guess that they arent, simply because the beetle has a sloping wing, so it would be more a crescent moon sort of shape in profile where as the type 3 is more of a half moon. If you understand what I mean? And if ive rightly understood that were talking about the part of the wing, r...

Type 3 oil cooler wanted

I'm after a mysterious thing, a NOS oil cooler for a type 3 engine.
They're obsolete, so can anybody help? Maybe there's one in a stash of parts somewhere.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Engine successfully mounted on stand and partially stripped. Excuse the messy garage, there's lots of engines and parts in the way. https://i.postimg.cc/j20Q8Ts2/IMG-5658.jpg I think I may drop the heads off and have a look inside just to make sure. The pushrod tubes are leaking, so I can chan...

Re: Headlight Bowls

I know the early cars have the same Hella headlights as type 1s and type2s, not sure about later cars though.

EDIT: Just checked the part number 311 941 039 F fits type 1 MY 1968-1973, type 2 MY 1968-1972 and type 3 all years.

That's OK, Peter.
I'll get a neighbour to give me a hand tomorrow. If not, I'll be driving it all over the country next week.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Hello, I'm back. Lost interest in things for a few months as I was a bit unwell. Well, to be more accurate I had a probable TIA at the beginning of October. But now I'm almost back to normal, just lost a bit of dexterity and sensation on my right hand side and I have a constant headache. So it's tim...

Club displays are not free any more, and you have to buy a ticket as well.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

I don't think it's washing up liquid as it contains salt, but a couple of drops of liquid detergent are sometimes used in the flatting water to stop the paper dragging as you sand.

I thought I had some pics somewhere.
It's quite a large device.

And here's a printout.

Just like a "SUN" diagnostic machine I suppose.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

It would probably just sit there gathering dust anyway. I'm sure they worked with punched cards, after 30 odd years I can't imagine them being in tip-top condition.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

Unfortunately not, I was on the way home from a job when I passed and asked to look around.
The chap there was pretty reluctant to let me in, and was adamant nothing was for sale, and I couldn't take any pics.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

I visited an old VW dealership in the middle of Wales this week, they had a diagnostic machine at the back of the workshop.
The chap there said it hadn't been used for 30 years, and looking at the layer of dust on it he was probably right.
