Re: Miles not clocking up!
Had a quick search on the internet and someone suggested taking out the shaft that has the cogs on it and rough it up with some sandpaper, so it grips the grey nylon gear at the end. Tried it, and it all works again. I slid a screwdriver through the cogs as I removed the central shaft to stop them f...

Re: Miles not clocking up!
Ok, just had another look..it looks like drive has been lost between the metal gear that turns the spindle with the main digits on it and the grey nylon gear at the far end of the spindle..hopefully you can see, just by the number 7 at the back on this photo..

20200724_165539.jpg 20200724_165607.jpg 20200724_165553.jpg Hope the pictures work! The metal cogs all move fine, so which nylon bit has failed? Is it serviceable, or whole new speedo? Also, how does the trip button come off so I can get it all apart? Looks like there should be a small grub screw i...

Re: Miles not clocking up!
Thanks Broady. So do I need to replace the whole speedo, or can I just change the nylon drive gear, if I can get one!
Tnx.

Miles not clocking up!
Hi all,
Went out in my 68 fasty today and noticed that the speedo is working fine, but the miles aren't moving, on both the odometer and the trip recorder.
Any suggestions?
Is there an easy fix worth trying, or is it speedo out & repaired/refurbed/replaced?
Is the speedo out an easy job?
Thx

Re: Water leaking into passenger football after washing.
Got chance to have a look at this today...took the glove box out for better access, then took the drain tubes off the bottom of the plastic heater boxes ( if that's what they are called!) ...drivers side was clear..passenger side (the side that's leaking water) was completely blocked. Pushed my grab...

Re: Water leaking into passenger football after washing.
Tnx Broady. Car is mint with no rust anywhere, so hoping it's just a blockage somewhere. I'll study your ok is in some detail and take a look as soon as I get a chance.
Tnx again .

Water leaking into passenger football after washing.
Hi all. Gave my 68 fastback a well-deserved wash this afternoon. Used a hose pipe but tried not to give it too much of a shower. When I got into it a few minutes after finishing the wash, water was leaking into my passenger footwell, probably a quarter of a pint. It looks like it was leaking from th...

Automatic shift pattern sticker
Hi all.
Seem to remember that someone on here was going to reproduce the automatic shift pattern ashtray stickers.
Did they ever materialise, or are they available from anywhere?
Tnx.

Re: Side markers
Yeah, I thought that when I saw the bulbs.
I will have to try and trace the wires as they go through the wing to see where they are connected to..when it stops raining!!

Side markers
Hi all.
I assume the side marker lights are supposed to come on with the lights? Mine don't!
Took the lens off yesterday and both mine appear to have working bulbs and wires going to them. They have orange bulbs in.
Any suggestions s where to look first?
Thanks.

Re: Mobile mechanic/knowledgable person Birmingham area wanted
In my experience, it usually ends up being something simple (and sometimes stupid!). Have you checked the dizzy..could it have been moved..have you checked the timing? Are you running points..if so, could they have closed up a bit? Worth checking the basics. I an Solihull..you are welcome to bring i...

Certainly change any filters you may have..and would it be worth giving some carb cleaner a go before committing to removing and stripping them?

Re: What's going on after spark plug change?
Looks like both of the flaps were wedged before I messed around with them such that the flap with the weight on was wedged open and the flap that diverts air from either the engine compartment or the rest valance was wedged on the little slot, so air us coming from the rear valance. Hope that makes ...

Re: Silly question of the day.
Thanks guys - had a look at the weekend, and looks like I must have knocked one of the wires off the back of the alternator when I changed the plugs!!
It's usually something simple!
How embarrassing !!

Re: Silly question of the day.
It's charging ok, but the light doesn't come on when I turn the ignition on. Whilst I would like to get the light working, am I right in thinking that the lack of the light is not as important as on a type 1 engine, as the cooling is provided by a fan on the end of the crankshaft, so if the belt fai...

Silly question of the day.
Hi all, Apologies for the really easy question.. I should really know this, but.. The 4 warning lights on my 68 fasty ..looks like 1 us side lights, 2 is main beam & 4 is oil pressure, but what is 3? My 3rd light doesn't come on at all..I assume it's ignition..any idea why it wouldn't work..mine is ...

Re: What's going on after spark plug change?
The tans o am talking about are on the end of the metal rods that are fixed to the flaps. Probably not explaining myself very well! Before I changed the plugs the tabs were wedged such that both of the flaps were open, and there was clear air flow from the rear valance into the air filter..I have no...
