Re: Ant b's 412 variant.

I've a few gearboxes in storage that have come from various parts collections and I think there's an NOS sunroof on ebay for £99 just now.

Re: Foam inside wheel arches

I recently cut the quarter panel skin from a 411 variant. That foam extends right round the wheel arch at 2-3 inches thick. I presumed it was sound deadening but it also sticks to the metal pretty well. It's also found it in the cavities at the top of the posts next to the rear hatch at the roof lin...

Re: 412 project

Having emptied the car of all the boxes of parts, I stripped the interior completely including dash and wiring loom then removed the nasty sound-proofing from the floor to see what was left. There wasn't much of the n/s left. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50085124837_2c0e615b6e_b.jpg The o/s w...

David, what was that stuff you mentioned for repairing rubbers? Got rear impact strip off and the rubber is split on the back but hasn't rusted the metal strip inside so want to seal it.

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

Thank again for hosting David. All cuts now safely stored for processing although a fair bit got swept out the van! I'm beginning to have hope that I've got enough metal to make mine solid again. Cleaning and cataloguing other parts as I go. Might be a few years yet!

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

Dave, I posted a few photos of my project under the imaginative title '412 project' in the Member cars and projects section so you can see what I'm trying to resurrect. David, I think I'm gonna want that rear valance. And everything else that isn't rust. Might need some more cutting discs!!! I see y...

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

David, I'll call tomorrow. I had another look round my project and might want some more cuts, if they're not claimed already.

Broady, Saturday early doors is good for me. Whereabouts? Send me a post code so sat nav can tell me where to go!

Re: Vintage Voltage

I saw Vintage Voltage and couldn't believe how many batteries went in. I wondered where the spare wheel and small luggage go now. I suppose battery technology will improve and batteries will get smaller but I have to agree with broady, sound and smell is very much part of driving old vdubs - I don't...

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

Thanks for hosting. Always enjoy a day of parts salvage! Will be back with a van for the roof, bulkhead behind the petrol tank, floors and rear side cuts. And mustn't forget the ball-joints and other bits too. Two cars shall become one! Such a strange thing to pull so much good stuff from a car that...

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

Hi again David. Other things spring to mind, I need a head liner, rear hatch hinge covers, door rubbers and sun visors. The rear view mirror too if it's all in good condition. I've nearly finished stripping my scrappy 412 and I'm dreaming of repairing the shell - this the cuts request - and putting ...

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

Hi David, I'd be interested in the front and rear impact strips if they're still intact. Front ball joints and inner (bent) tie-rod ends in any condition. I imagine the floors are gone but if there are any reasonable cuts, including rear engine bay, anything underneath or roof/gutter, I'd be very in...

Re: How are we all?

Broady, yes a very busy list. Bathroom turned out to be way more work than I'd hoped so 412 work has all but stopped. Managed to get myself taken off the highly vulnerable list so as soon as the paperwork comes through I'm going back to work. I've have been furloughed so not lost out financially but...

Re: How are we all?

Me and the family are good. My missus is working from home and the kids find enough to do. My boy has learned to ride his bike. Trying to get back into work as I've been off five weeks and, once I've finished the bathroom, I'll only have the outside of the house to paint so need to go back! I've str...

Re: AAR causing high idle

Thanks for the reply. I did have a look at oldtimer earlier today as the chap that writes it seems very knowledgable but I got a little confused when he starts talking about water ingress, presumably on AARs on water cooled cars. I did give all four AARs a tap or two around the body then put them in...

AAR causing high idle

Hi all. I'm looking for a little advice regarding the auxiliary air valve. My 412 FI idles high, even with the idle screw right in. I've been all over the engine and carried out the testing in John Muir's book regarding components and have found nothing wrong with them, resistances are correct, vac ...

Re: Ignition fault or vacuum?

You say it's running rich and the plugs are black. Have you cleaned or replaced the plugs? A poor spark is sure to cause a poor burn and rough running. Also, do you have a control knob on the ECU? Not all do but if you do I think its anti-clockwise for lean and clockwise for rich. Good luck with the...
