I had the same problem. Turned out the issue was filler, primer and paint thickness in the holes. I carefully reamed out the holes with a drill bit and painted the inside of the holes to prevent any rust. The nylon plugs push in and the badge goes right in with a firm push.

Re: Fuel Filler Neck Collar
I bought one of these from ISP West and I'm dissapointed in the quality of the rubber. In less than a year the rubber around the edge where the wire retaining ring seats is cracking quite badly. This doesn't get hot and no UV. The rubber needs to be more flexible I think

Re: Fuel pump
Resurrecting an old post.. What is the list on Pierburg mechanical fuel pumps used in VW's. Above there is reference to the specs for VW6 and VW7 pumps. Is this available online somewhere. I have just brought a second hand VW7 pump which was supposedly for a Type 3 and came from a parts car, plus a ...

Re: Front scuttle rust
Ha. Found a body being parted out and picked up this piece. The photos show the construction of how the panels fit together. I'll deconstruct it and and use the parts I need building out from the inside. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nKC6J_dfPUs/VfZ4h2VSTgI/AAAAAAAAAdU/iRo-u-g3KlE/s640-Ic42/IMG...

Re: Rear subframe front mount - 70 Fastback
Hi Mike, I straightened the plate and repainted it. Both rubber bushes are there and don't look deformed. But when I went to reinstall it it would only go together with a slight bow in it again??. There's no deformation in the body tunnel either. If it's no trouble I would appreciate pictures of you...

Front scuttle rust
I have some rust in the front scuttle next to the wiper spindle. This area looks to be double skinned but I cant find any pictures to support this. Or is the double skin just a red herring and what I am seeing through the rust is the air box fixed to the underside of the scuttle? https://lh3.googleu...

Re: Rear subframe front mount - 70 Fastback
Cheers Mike, I've been looking further at images on the forums and every photo I came across showed it as flat. I think the rubber is still there though but a pit squashed!

Rear subframe front mount - 70 Fastback
The mounting plate which secures the rear subframe to the body, should this be flat or shaped as in the photos below? Looking at the parts book it should be flat. Could this have been bent over the years from being used as a jacking point? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sbxjUEYm2lM/Vc2Obrzw4-I/A...

Re: 68 Fastback
I know Purplepeter I was so disappointed about that. I didn't know there was a web until after they had started on the sills and by that time they had nearly finished one side and it was too late. So I just got them to carry on without them. I don't think they are there for rigidity but maybe to sep...

Hi Mick, Here's what I started with. Both sills were shot and the left side was badly rusted by the wheel arch. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U8tx0DF5hWQ/VckwCOHfuJI/AAAAAAAAAbk/jmoSsZ4eP2o/s800-Ic42/IMG_2805.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vxHScioahvw/VckwFNncHaI/AAAAAAAAAbk/po4WfhilSCg...

Re: 68 Fastback
Where did you get your rear bumper mount panels from? they look different to those I can find on the net, more accurate. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa219/FLC_photo/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-04/IMG_20150430_142515_zpsxeweywyd.jpg Also I've just replaced both sills on my 70 Fastback with the same ...

Re: Ball joint pin sizes
Thanks Dave,
I bought some nos units that were advertised as upper x2 and lower x1. All have the same size 18mm pin so I now know these are lower ball joints. The seller has a pair of joints with 16mm pins so I'll get these and have a full set..
Cheers,
Craig

Ball joint pin sizes
Hi All, Can someone enlighten me to the sizes of the front ball joint pins. I know there are upper and lower ball joints, and I think the lower ones have an 18mm diameter pin. Would it be correct that the upper ones have a 16mm pin and are maybe a bit smaller/lighter? Is this the only difference bet...
