Re: Intake manifold gasket - metalic or paper?/ Vacuum leak?

Thank you so much for helping me with this, Broady. I will open one of the carbs and check the gasket, if they are alike. I can also compere it with the original German 32's. to be sure they will fit. I read that the kits for 32 and 23/34 are not interchangeable, but the gasket still might fit alrig...

Re: Intake manifold gasket - metalic or paper?/ Vacuum leak?

It is quite possible, i have never done it before but i will study and try out some maintenance. Carbs on the car are Solex brosol 32-34 pdsit 2 and 3. They need some cleaning as well. The rubber joins looks ok spraying carb cleaner over them didnt do anything. I already looking for replacement to b...

Re: Intake manifold gasket - metalic or paper?

When i connect vacuum gauge into hose from carburetor to distributor (at distributor end), the gauge shows 22 hg, (on the gauge is written: late valve timing or vacuum leak at intake manifold or heat riser) normal reading should be 45-55hg. The first impulse for searching was that the car was always...

Re: Intake manifold gasket - metalic or paper?

Excellent, thank you. I not very familiar what heat riser is but i think this car doesn't have it. Its '71 type 3 Squareback. Im sorry for the confusion, it is written on the display of vacuum gauge i have: "Late valve timing or leak or intake manifold or heat riser" Thanks again for your advice. Se...

Intake manifold gasket - metalic or paper?/ Vacuum leak?

Hi guys, Im trying to locate an intake vacuum leak. I have a hissing sound from left carburetor and also a vacuum gauge shows intake or heat riser leak or late valve timing. As i just checked valves (0.006inch/0.15mm) im pretty sure timing is ok. Ive tried spraying carburetor cleaning aerosol around...

Re: Probem with refiting spring plate

All done, finally had some spare time and got into the fight again. The longer bolts worked great, everything went much smoother then expected, even without hammer. I used two bolts 5 cm and two 6 cm (original are 4 cm). And spring plate lifted just using a bottle jack. Car didnt have intention to l...

Re: Probem with refiting spring plate

yes, its rear torsion bar. i actually didnt have a problem raise the spring plate on the stop notch, but when i did, i cannot mount back the cover with the rubber bushing. There is still a little gap between the subframe and the spring plate and the holes for cover does not much. Sorry, you are righ...

Probem with refiting spring plate

Hi guys, a torsion bar on my type 3, 71' Squareback broke. Took it out without a problem, got new one with bushings and having big problem refit the spring plate when lifted on the stop. No matter how long i'd been banging into it, still have a gap about 0,5cm and the cover doesnt match the holes to...

Re: Type 3 - variant 1971 - low rpm, stalling, before engine warms up

If you are using 311 905 205 T the main thing to check is that it is at 7.5 BTDC at idle. I thought i should be on TDC at idle 850rpm. Bentley says 68-71 = 0 before TDC 72-73 = 5 before TDC I also saw table here on forum which states different timing points depending on engine number. What is more ...

Re: Type 3 - variant 1971 - low rpm, stalling, before engine warms up

Thank you for confirmation of the process and explanation. I sort of have an idea about how to measure the degree. My main concern was if the degrees are changing with different types of distributors or if its still 30 degrees no matter which distributor i have? Im sorry if its sometimes difficult t...

Re: Bentley manual does not cover carbs?

Thank you very much purplepeter,

This will be definitely helpful. I'd also kindly ask for the fuel pump section as Bentley again has only electric pump covered, not mechanical.
If possible.

Thank you Sima
