Heat exchanger hose?

Hey All, After nearly selling - I've decided to keep my Type 3. I just love it! I've had a load of wrk done and now moving onto the rust underneath (sills, etc). One just I never really finished was the heat exchangers. I had both replaced but the garage couldn't find the right hose to connect the o...

Re: Headlight Issue

A big thank you to everyone for their help. I decided to brave fixing the relay myself having watch a youtube video. So I pried the top off and bent the little arm that controls the "switch". Put it back together and now it works! This video showed me what the relay should do: https://www.youtube.co...

Re: Headlight Issue

Hey Shawn,

Great - it seems to be the one on the right then! Not sure how to get it off though.

How would you check for an earthing issue? 100% classic car newbie here!!

Cheers, David

Re: Headlight Issue

Hi Mike, Thanks for the quick reply. I have tracked down the relays above the fuses. There is a black bar that seems to have space for 5 relays but there are only two in there. One to the far left and one to the far right. The far right has a part number (411941583B) and does not seem to want to com...

Headlight Issue

Hey All, another issue! When I bought the car, my driving lights did not work. However, when it came back from the engine rebuild, they were working - woo hoo! But I just changed a "side light" bulb and now the driving lights do not work again. I have side lights and full beam but not standard drivi...

Instrument Panel Illuminations

Hey All, So I finally got my VW Type 3 Fastback back after an engine rebuild including new heat exchangers and exhaust (ouch!). So will have a few small jobs to do now. First one on the list is the instrument panel illuminations. When driving at night, the speedo, etc are almost completely in the da...

Thanks for the replies everyone. "Rusty" is currently in getting an engine rebuild but I'll get stuck into this when I get her back!

Re: Fuel Gauge

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. The sender all seems okay. I dismantled it and gave it a clean. The float moves freely so I dont think it is that.

Any other ideas? :D

Fuel Gauge

Hey All! Hopefully I'm not asking a question that has already been answered but... my fuel gauge doesn't work (and didn't when I bought the car). She is a 1970 Type 3 Fastback. The tank is full and the gauge is showing it is empty. I've removed the sender and given it a clean (the float moves freely...

Coming soon to UK streets!

Hi All, I have just bought my first classic car! A white 1970s VW Sportback that has been sleeping in a garage for over 7 years. She is a little (a lot) rusty and currently doesn't start... good investment I think!? I just wanted to say hello and warn you that I'll be asking loads of questions soon....
