Re: Thermostat fitment
I'm sure you've already got this sorted as it's a bit late - The thermostat expands as it heats up so it pushes up on the rod (or just releases the tension on the rod) allowing the flaps to gradually open as it expands. The thermostat is just threaded onto the end of the rod, and then bolted into th...

Re: Fastback Standard Tyres
I have a set of 4 continental contact tyres for sale for £200 if of interest. They’re basically brand new - 2 years old, covered less than 200 miles. Cost me double that. I’m based in surrey. They are 165/80/R15 87T Jack 5333994D-D1FA-4010-987E-CF60EFF65561.jpeg 40943234-3ACF-4650-BDBA-09A9BDE356D6....

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
So i haven't been particularly hot on updating this thread as of late, but plenty more progress has been had. The engine is now in and running (still need someone to correctly set it up for me) and had both carbs rebuilt, followed by an oil cooler that blew up and dumped it's guts all over my freshl...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
Loads of progress but lacking photos! The engine's had all of the gaskets and seals replaced, along with a new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel and clutch cable. It's back in, i just need the time to get the timing set up, and can then get the carbs running a bit better! I also found that both th...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
Bit more progress. Engine is largely back together with new gaskets and seals. Currently on the hunt for heat exchangers as mine were rotten. Once they’re bought i can fit them and the exhaust, then i can move onto doing the rear main seal, and fitting the new clutch and flywheel and back in she goes

Some more progress on the engine today.
The heat exchangers are rotten, and the oil breather was chock full off nasty, crusty old oil!

Oh yes i have those pipes, i’m in the process of finding some suitable piping. I see ISP west do it but don’t have stock, looking elsewhere for suitable options.
If you do have those bits for the balance pipes let me know

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
thanks mate! god knows where i'll get those balance pipe parts from! I have the elbows, trying to get hold of new clamps for the rubber. I want heating so it'll all be going back on, no J tubes for me. Will get a few snaps, need to replace rear main seal as the bell housing is full of oil and the cl...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
I’ve also replaced all of the gear selector bushes, you can see there wasn’t an awful lot left.... Cleaned up inside the boot a bit, and also cleaned up the original headliner with a damp cloth. There are a couple of small stains but no tears so overall i’m really happy with it. Then i went on the h...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
So it’s been a while since i was last on here... I made some good progress at the start of lock down, including lowering the front end, and new discs/bearings. Lowering it became an absolute ballache as i snapped the bolt for the lower ball joint in the spindle and got the right arse. Progress has h...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
Been busy with work, shitty weather and now this ballache of coronavirus. Got a few hours in today, so fitted a new front wing from Danny, got the new rims on and replaced the dash bulbs with LEDs. Oh and i also finally opened the ash tray to find some fourty year old fag butts and matches! I’ve rep...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
Yeah electrics are all happy now so that’s something off the list. Felt i needed something to tart up the exterior as it does look like it’s been dragged out of a swamp (which to be fair, it pretty much has been). So i have some 914 alloys which i’m putting on it in the next week or so to hopefully ...

Yeah all fitted correctly now, i don’t think they were fitted correctly originally, plus they were slightly loose as when twisting the headlight switch you coupd feel the entire switch turn behind the dash

Been a while since i last updated. purplepeter - i appreciate the suggestion, i'll be doing this in the coming weeks. Following on from my last post, i was still having issues blowing fuses. After a couple of accidental knocks to the fuse box, i found it was sparking against the back of the dash and...

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning
So a bit of progress yesterday. Had both the rear wings off to check for melted wiring, nothing was damaged. I replaced some of the broken spade connectors and tested and funnily enough the side lights are now working fine. I swapped the hazard relay and then indicators were all good. So i put the f...
