Re: Type 3 Washer Bottle Hose Wanted
It`s just the Black Windscreen Washer Tubing used on Beetles, Type 3 etc. Cut to Length from a Roll. Usually cheaper on ebay than from Heritage VW and other suppliers. Yes it does stretch to that size to fit. Or are you missing the Plastic Nut as well ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232282624728 2 met...

Type 3 Washer Bottle Hose Wanted
Hi folks,
I'm looking for the washer bottle hose that fits onto the bottom of the washer bottle on my 72 fastback. It's the one with the nut that screws onto the bottom.
Cheers

Type 3 Rev Counter Wiring
Help! my 72 fastback is fitted with a VDO rev counter, which has never worked while I have owned the car, probably due to the lack of wiring to the rev counter. can anyone suggest which wires and colours of wires should go to the three terminals on the back of the rev counter. I will try to attach a...

Re: Wiring Diagram Type 3
Another issue I have related to the wiring is, my car has been fitted with an alternator so, no control box and it has electronic ignition so, I'm sure there will be redundant wires kicking round, which adds to the confusion.

Re: Wiring Diagram Type 3
The wiring in my car is a bit of a shambles (explosion in a spaghetti factory) and the wires shown on the wiring diagram are not always the same colour as the ones in my car. I was trying to get back to basics. Ignition to starter, how many cables, which colour and size Etc.

Re: Type 3 Thermostat Fitting
Going by the Haynes Manual procedure the thermostat should open to 46mm at 65-70c my one only opens to 42.2mm however the flaps are opening and closing, not as wide open or closed as they should be but I may just go with it as it is.

Re: Type 3 Thermostat Fitting
Yes, the flaps are totally free. The thermostat is fitted into the bracket OK with the bottom of the thermostat fitting into the semi-square hole in the bottom of the bracket. Any idea where I can find a copy of the set up procedure?

Type 3 Thermostat Fitting
OK folks, I'm rebuilding my 1972 ish 1600cc engine and have fitted the thermostat and hooked up all the linkages to the flaps, including the spring. I have checked the thermostat and it appears to be working as it should i.e. filling the gap within the bracket when hot. My problem is that the moveme...

Re: Gasket Set
Hi, It's the engine gasket kit and it has all the gaskets numbered then the descriptions for each number listed below. It may have been someone from the Type 3&4 club or the Samba who created it. It's very handy when you don't require all the gaskets in the kit and where there are similar gaskets e....

Re: Main bearing question
Pressing the bearing into the casing isn't an issue. I can lay it in and move it back and forward about the same 1.8mm as the end float before I took the engine apart.

Re: Main bearing question
I'm getting hold of another engine which hopefully may have a casing that is not worn away. I will find out in a couple of weeks. If it's shot as well then I will be looking at the various options e.g. line bored. Thanks

Re: Main bearing question
the reason I'm changing the bearings is because they are worn and the dowel holes are elongated due to the casing wear and end float.

Re: Main bearing question
Thanks for the advice guys. The part number issue makes sense if it's for that individual bearing. If I measure the crank journals and case bore will the suppliers be able to apply the measurements to a part number?

Main bearing question
I'm having a bit of a problem sourcing main bearings for my Fastback 1600 engine. The bearings I have taken out are P/N. 131-105-531 but none of the regular VW suppliers show this number for bearings for a 1600cc engine. VW Heritage show 111-198-461 for my car. The engine is from 1970.
