Re: Auto box failure

Hi Mark (and anyone else interested). As a follow up to my Auto box failure post. The car went to a company called Dartford Transmissions (recommended to me by a couple of sources). When they took the box apart they found the Direct/Reverse wrecked. They replaced this and also the other clutch and t...

Re: Auto box failure

Hi thanks for your suggestions. Looking like it could be the Reverse and Direct Clutch (or related part) has failed :crybaby: :( As it involves dismantling the box just need to track down a trustworthy Auto Box re builder and find parts! (And money!) Hi Mark Poulton - good to see you are still on th...

Auto box failure

Need some advice re: my 1973 Type 3 Automatic Squareback. Took it for its MOT last week, it passed with flying colours, but when I collected Garage informed me the reverse gear had stopped working. They claimed it was nothing they has done just a "coincidence". The box has been trouble free for year...

Whats the latest on Historic Vehicle Exemption?

We have a Type 3 and Beetle both 1973. Should we get automatic exemption when the tax becomes due or do you have to apply for it. Is it based on Manufacture date or date first registered? Looked on the online site and they both seem still to be eligible for tax.

Thanks

Re: Window Rubbers advice

Cant get hold of Simon Kelly at the moment, he hasn't replied to my Ebay email. The other option seems to be Custom & Commercial, anyone any opinions on the quality of their rubbers?

Window Rubbers advice

The Window Rubbers on my 73 Variant are shot and will need replacing very soon. Any comments on the best quality (re fit and longevity) around at the moment> I want to retain the chrome strips so not Cal Look rubbers.

Re: Taking out interior

Removed it Saturday with no problem thanks. Handle on the back seat backrest I know about, broke original a few years back! But fortunately found a NOS replacement in the states very cheaply. Found a lot of rust around rear seat belt mounts! Usual for these cars but took my eye of the ball for a whi...

Welding

Variant just failed MOT and needs some Welding, not massive amount but want to find a guy or garage to do the work that's trustworthy and understands old VWs and working on a classic rather than the "bang on a patch to get it through the next MOT" approach. Really need to be someone in SE London are...

Re: Replacement Master Cylinder for 1973 Variant Auto

Brakes failed on the M1 going to Shropshire :( Was working perfectly then suddenly went. At low speed there is some braking but not a lot. Assuming its the master cylinder, although no leakage. As its dual I guess that one section has failed and the minimal breaking I am getting is from the secondar...
