Re: Master cylinder fluid leak

I’ve just been through this too. Thanks to this thread I bench tested the CSP master cylinder before fitting it. Glad I did but think I had a more lucky outcome. I sourced a replacement 135 degree inlet pipe from Just Kampers as mentioned in this thread and also a new rubber grommet from there too. ...

Uprated engine mounts - IRS/engine bar

Hi all, anyone have any thoughts on uprated engine mounts for an engine brace bar on an IRS Type 3?

You can get Rhino front ones as they are generic Type 1. I know the rears aren't available for this application so thinking about adapting something. Just trying to avoid adding a Swing Axle sub frame.

The tacho looks great! I did something similar with an Elliot gauge which is kinda period looking. I'll take a pic.

Re: '73 Steering column bearing part number

...actually, if there is no bearing, that would be a similar system to my '55 beetle which just has a plastic bush, so it's possible I guess.

[edit]: they list:

111-953-559A ('71 -> '74) metal 24mm
111-953-559C ('74 ->) plastic centre 22mm

I guess they mean '73 and not '74 which the confusing bit?

Re: '73 Steering column bearing part number

Hmm, not sure Dave, I always assumed it was a proper bearing. I'll strip it down and take a look. It looks like someone has remanufactured them as Aircooled.net list two different ones for Type 3's but their dates are screwy. They also imply they were shared with Type 1's which I didn't think was th...

'73 Steering column bearing part number

Hi all, does anyone know the part number for a steering column bearing? It's for a '73 Fastback.

Thanks.

Re: '73 FI type3 refusing to start

The one you posted a pic of looks a bit different to type I was thinking of. Anyhow, you just need a large clear plastic type (with the orange paper filter in it). :-)

The metal ones are usually found in K-Jet systems which can handle up to 80psi.

Re: '73 FI type3 refusing to start

If it's a clear plastic one it'll be fine. But be aware there's two sizes. The small one is for low pressure (carbs) and the larger ones are for FI.

Re: Type 3 Alternator

I discovered that myself after I had posted here. I like the idea that was posted of how to put an actual VW alternator on the Notch engine. I have more or less decided to go that route here. On the Volks Wagner note though I have most of what I need for the sound system now. I have a pair of Calif...

Do a full service (points, plugs, timing etc.)
Check all FI earths (e.g. ECU, injectors and anything else)
Check VR (and power to ECU)
Check all vacuum hoses
Clean FI points in dizzy by carefully drawing a sheet of paper through them

Re: Narrowed beams on a type 3

Speak to T3D. They've done a few now. I think the two options are, a) use custom adapter spacers/blocks or b) swap the framehead to Type 1.
