Re: 66 Fastback....
My lovely old Fastback gets used so infrequently, but in the last seven days, I have used it to travel from Leicestershire to Luton, Central London, Kent, Swindon, Bath, Birmingham and back to Leicestershire, followed by a return trip to Luton airport! Lots of miles added to the odometer which now r...

Thanks Peter. The position of the coil is correct for early 1600 engines. I have a NOS 6v black one to fit on it when I get the time.purplepeter wrote:Nice pics & Happy Birthday to Your Car Rich!

Re: 66 Fastback....
Great info Dave. I fitted my Fastback with brand new XZX's a couple of years ago. My car was originally supplied by Modern Light Cars with crossplies, but ZX radials were an option on Volkswagens in 1966 (it states this in the original instruction manual). My Garnet Red '59 still wears crossplies, a...

Re: 66 Fastback....
Just found this pic I took in March 2013 when it had been snowing. A couple of days previous to this, we had had heavy snow in Sussex. The Fastback was the only car in my street able to climb the hill at the end of my road. I ended up ferrying stranded neighbours about whose cars couldn't cope with ...

Indeed it is. It was in Ellesmere in Shropshire in the 1980s. I wonder where it is now?

CUX 289L 412 Variant
This is a green 73 variant. Does anybody know who owns or used to own it? I've just seen a picture of it from the early 1980s and it looks like it's still registered (but un-taxed) with the DVLA.

Re: That low mileage Yellow Type 4 on ebay....
Ahhh, so it apparently sold the first time on 7/11 for £3,602, but was immediately re-listed with the second auction ending a couple of days later. Sounds a bit fishy to me!! Would really like to know where it is and what happened to it.

Does the new owner come on here? Or did anybody go and look at the car before the auction ended? It seemed to go for quite a high price for a project! Re: Fuel issues. Vapour lock??
Sorted!
Measured push rod- correct length (107.7mm), measured travel of pushrod (8mm-12mm from flange). All good.
Stripped down fuel pump and the cut-off diaphragm in the top was perished. Replaced it and it's starting and running fine!
Thanks for your help.
Rich.

Thank you. Mine has the square top with cut off valve, so correct for my car.alex d wrote:the fuel pump with the inbuilt cut-off has a square top with 4 screws, the other one has a round top!
Just measured the pushrod and it is 107mm. It looks like it has some wear on the end.

Re: Fuel issues. Vapour lock??
The fuel pump isn't pumping anything. Then all of a sudden after several minutes of cranking, it may or may not start pumping. I will check the length if the pushrod tomorrow.
Does anybody know how long iit should be?
Many thanks
Rich

Fuel issues. Vapour lock??
Hello there! My 66 Twin-carb Fastback has always been a bit of a pain to start. If I leave it a few weeks without using it, it can take literally minutes of cranking before it starts. Sometimes it will not start at all. If I use it every day or two, it starts after a minimal amount of cranking. Elec...

I had the pleasure of sitting in this trailer tent a few weeks ago. It is absolutely lovely. These things usually aren't my cup of tea, but this thing is great. A credit to you and your work Peter.

Re: Carb return springs and stiff accelerator pedal...
Mike kindly loaned me his one and only genuine Type 3 carb spring and I compared it to the Type 1 flap spring from Heritage. They are the same gauge steel, have the same number of turns, but the Type 1 flap springs are just slightly shorter. I think they are about as close as you will find! I visite...
