Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

ME!? im taking not blame. I got it out the garage after winter, went to fill it up, and on the way home I was treated to a display from the red arrows. Unfortunately they were performing under my bonnet. Long story short, I pulled the engine apart to find worn out and stuck piston rings. Long story ...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

Oh yes, that engine will have a very short life on a track! Im amazed its still going. But I shall keep using it with care until such time that I can rebuild it, or it blows up.

The 944 on the other hand cacked its self in march and is now being run in, again.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

Well a number of reasons put a stop to this project again. I will get back to it. But I have at least been getting the car out and about yesterday I had a sunny ride to cadwell park.

Yeah it sounds rather like the ignition is "switching off". Have you checked all the wiring connections on the back of the switch too.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder

I have been converting classics to DOT 5 over the past couple of years. Not because it doesnt damage paint work. Brake fluid should be kept well clear of paint work. But because DOT 5 is silcone based and not hydroscopic. The main advantage of this is, if the car sits for any length of time, it does...

Re: Fastback Filter Question

Doesnt look like Type 3 Part to me. The tank outlet has a "finger" sized gauze filter https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/111209147a-brass-fuel-tank-filter.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw26KxBhBDEiwAu6KXt76iY2l5TlTZDKEn0_z2Qd3uV1qHoPzx-uBGXpIuej6iGavmRqTthxoC-Q8QAvD_BwE And it will depend which ...

Re: Furious Fastback

Certainly tidied that up well. If you can add a seal to that, it wil help you a lot in summer. Currently your cooling fan will be able to draw in hot air from the engine bay. Even if you just bond some rubber flaps as best you can, it will reduce the amount of hot air sucked in. Theres also the grom...

Re: Wiring Diagram Type 3

Electronic ignition just adds a wire from the coil to the distributor. Removing the regulator doesnt change much, if it was done properly. most of the wires are still used.

Re: Wiring Diagram Type 3

Ahhh ok, I forget the age of your car but............ Ill reference original colours for ease, hopefuly this helps, ignition is a black wire that runs from the coil + (there are 2 maybe 3 wires from there. One to the diagnostic plug if still fitted, one to the reverse light swtich and one to the fus...
