Re: Help - I kow nothing about my car!!!

it sounds very much like dirty old fuel. how often was the car serviced prior to leaving the UK? I would do as has been said, drain the fuel tank (remove the filter if you can) and then flush through with some diesel. Replace all of your rubber fuel hose. it will be perished if its been on there 6 y...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

I was going to try it the jig saw way. But as id done that previously with mixed results I decided to go for full pans with small mods at the front and back. Im pretty please the more I look at it. Once the welds are dressed and its epoxyed it wont look bad at all. Just not sure what to do with the ...

Nice. Sure you are making it look too easy, everyone will want to have a go. They are quite welcome! I feel like i've had enough of the 11pm finishes in the garage. One more evening this week and then im taking a week off! Well from manual work, I've got to study aviation legislation. And all the o...

Bloody hell thats a real dose of bad luck! At least youve got most of the expensive and rare bits to get another one built.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Going to build a complete spare engine, rather than salvage parts from the current one? The heads are repairable but you need to know the right welding men. Not many folk are interesting in trying as its so hard to do. I assume your heater pipes were just an interference fit? They should have hose c...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

Hope you get it done before your knees and hips get creaky and everything stiffens up (or not as the case may be). I can report that WD40 doesn't work on seized-up human bodies! I am slowly seizing up, though its muscle ache rather than joints. From sitting at odd angles to clean up and reach vario...

Re: Master cylinder fluid leak

Order another, send the old one back for a full refund :paranoid: I think I'm past that point now. Stupidly (or not) I bought all the big stuff at the beginning of the resto, but didn't get round to fitting it all until after 12 months has passed. I've been emailing Machine 7 and CSP since I notice...

Re: Master cylinder fluid leak

So I've visited the car today and noticed that the port has filled up with fluid, which is strange, even though nothing is connected on the gravity side (Rubber and elbow removed). So I suspect there's an internal leak allowing the pressure side to get to the low pressure side. I've also pulled the...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

Cheers very much! This is a late car too. I haven't removed the engine and box as such, just taken the sub frame off the pan. It's loads better, with a couple of casters and leave the wheels on. You can the move rear axel, box and engine around as one lump. I'm rather fed up of it now. I can see why...

One entomological question as I see it from time to time on build threads, and I'm not picking on you I'm just interested how you arrive at cill for the section under the door. as I always pronounce it with a slippery snake S so Sill rather then Kill but it seems both are correct from a dictionary p...

There is a place in London that have done lots of the vintage stuff at work for me. Youll be looking at the thick end of £100 but the work has always been faultless and carries a warranty. I don't have the name to had but I will get it for you. Its something like vintage rewinds

The place I use doesn't have dial but its still a big digital read out with a pair of coloured bars along the bottom filling in as the force increases that you can see as they do the tests. Bit out the way for yourself though

I think your last sentiment sums up my asperations perfectly too. I,m not aiming for nor am I after a perfect example of a Type 3. I,m after a good solid vehicle that I can rely on with a set of "Take me anywhere and get me home mechanics". Well kind of, i am going to be playing with silly engines ...

Liking the twin battery idea! Had always wondered about it for when im camping. Run my inverter off the spare without hurting the main one, still might do it but I recently bought this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50800mAh-Car-Jump-Starter-Pack-Portable-Booster-Charger-Battery-Power-Bank-12V/362060897...
