Re: Help with timing, I'm struggling!

My point is its a piece of piss to pull the dizzy drive gear out and move it around to suit your requirement/dizzy position. I fitted a protronix billet dizzy to my engine, there are two screws which hold the rotor cap to the body, these fouled the alternator I had fitted. So I pulled the dizzy out,...

Re: Help with timing, I'm struggling!

I would of thought there is only two positions that it could seat at to get #1 firing where it should be? I may have a lead on a correct dizzy local to me so may give that a shot before I do anything to risk having to tear the engine apart! No, you can pull the drive gear out from the engine, then ...

Re: Help with timing, I'm struggling!

You can get the dizzy to sit in any position (with the rotor arm still correctly pointing at the notch in the dizzy body) by pulling the distributor drive gear out from within the crank case and repositioning the gear in relation to where it engages to the crankshaft gear.

Re: Help with timing, I'm struggling!

Actually it doesn't matter where the notch is lining upto, just pull it and adjust to your needs. Also can't remember where but there are shims involved with this. Think they are underneath the drive gear so be carefully they don't drop in. Nice alternator by the way, had one similar on my notch a w...

Re: Help with timing, I'm struggling!

Your distributor drive gear is misaligned to the crank shaft. Number one piston at tdc, remove the dizzy, look into the hole, there will be an offset notch in a circular hole, the notch should be at 45 (guestamated) degrees to the crank case centre line. It's been a long time since I've played with ...

Re: Fastback brake woes

Of they arnt leaking fluid then I would just pull the piston out, clean it up and inspect it and probably just reassemble it. Chances are they are just abit dirty and want a clean and pistons polished.

But that's just me cause im tight :)

Re: Porsche 944 front brake calipers

The 944 hand brake shoes arnt cheap to replace ;) To me it was the easiest option for adapting the brakes. The rears just bolted straight on. The fronts where fiddly at first but I didn't machine them myself. Anyway I'm really happy with their performance. There where lots and lots of surprises when...

Had the single pot calipers, I'm sure if you asked they could give you the measurement your after. I do need to check mine and soon as its pulling to one side under braking but I'm away as of Mond...

Re: Porsche 944 front brake calipers

They don't bolt on, I know that for sure. You must machine the spindle and then tap the caliper mounting holes further down into the spindle. You'll need the 944 hub and disc too. Can't remember which bearings you need but it's one from the Porsche and one from VW, say VW inner and Porsche outer bea...

Re: Swap a T3 dynamo with a T1 version?

I did this to mine many years ago. I recall it worked fine. I just left the extra shaft alone out the back of the dynamo. No it's not the correct way of doing it but if it's a quick solution then it'll be fine. Best of luck
