Re: 68 fastback - Marko's old car - bits n bobs!
Just fitted my new pressie to myself - NOS mudflaps. Spent some time trying to get them to fit spot on, as I have OCD when it comes to things needing to be straight and look just right. I had to fit a couple of small brackets to drop the mudflaps down a smidge on the inside. I have not drilled any h...

Re: choke/ fuel/ carb problems
Hi Clare, Firstly, are you sure you got plenty of petrol (sounds daft, but you'd be suprpised!). Secondly, have you checked for a spark - just pull a plug lead off and plug it onto a clean spare plug and hold it onto the engine block and then get someone to turn it over while you look at the plug to...

Re: My new mats
Not sure about the price as I had some other stuff done at the same time & they gave me a price for the lot. I have phoned them this afternoon to get a price for mats only & waiting for them to get back to me. They said that they have thrown the templates away, but mine were for my RHD automatic, so...

My new mats
Hi all, Not really technical, but thought this would be the best place to post this. So, since buying my fastback, I have wanted to protect the lovely carpets. I have looked everywhere but not found any tailored overmats, so look what I had made up at Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers..picked then up this af...

Thanks for the reply Mike - don't suppose you are interested in selling the NOS black ones with the Chevrons are you?
Must admit, I am not loving the way the mudflaps with the VW emblem in the photo get wider - think it must be my OCD!
Thanks,
Ade

Ok, so its pretty obvious that oem type 3 mudflaps are nigh on impossible to find!
What have people fitted as a good looking and well fitting alternative?

Re: Hello I'm new here and am looking for a fastback or notc
Hi matey - good move - I swapped my bus for a type 3 and the difference in drive is amazing! I bought a real nice fasty a couple of months ago, but before I bought mine I managed to track down the contact details for one that was for sale at a local car show (not local to me, local to the owner) - s...

Re: 68 fastback - Marko's old car - bits n bobs!
Couldn't really decide on wheels (I am a bit of a wheel junkie & always changing my mind!). I do like the stock look, but wanted to put my own stamp on the car, so I was looking out for some gas burners. Couldn't find any used ones, then my mate told me that the guy who he has just sold his beetle t...

Re: horn wire
I have the 12v feed to the horn & horn works with a wire from chassis to the horn button. My issue is that the wire from the horn button has become detached at the lower end. I assume that i will need to reattach it under the car at the steering box?

horn wire
Hi all, The horn has stopped working on my 68 fasty.. Pulled the horn earth wore from the steering wheel end and it kept coming..and coming.. all the way out! So, where does the wire go - presumably it goes back down the centre of the steering column, out of the steering box & attaches to an earth c...

Re: how much drop is one rear spline?
Thanx guys. Will fit my new wheels tomoz, give it a bit os a drive & see how it looks as is. Reckon even 1 spline maybe a bit low for my liking. Dropped my beetle and it was a bit soft at the rear end over the speed bumps. The fasty rides so nice i didn't want to compromise the ride quality. Will po...

how much drop is one rear spline?
Hi all,
Think I need to drop the back of my 68 fasty about an inch - is it the same set up as the beetle and how much will 1 outer spline drop the rear end by?
the front sits fine.

Re: new wheels catching - ok to grind down the caliper?
Mine is an early car. Just ordered some 6mm spacers, 3mm ones would probably be sufficient but could only find these in generic form & seems that the centre bore woukd be a bit too small.

new wheels catching - ok to grind down the caliper?
Hi all, Just became the proud owner of a set of 4 lug sprintstar wheels to fit my fasty. Put the back ones on - they look and sit great. Fitted the front ones but the wheel is catching on the caliper slightly. Didn't want to fit spacers as it's hard enough battling against the type 3 offset anyway w...
