Re: A new 412 owner
As I have two Tropic Green Variants if you have N6N6 repeated at 90 degrees, on the Green Construction Plate, mounted next to the VIN Plate, then it's Tropic Green.

Re: ISPWest Tachometer
Apparently its left Los Angeles and is in transit across the US... I'm pretty good on the economy, I've had 43 mpg out of the Squareback before now, however, I always thought coasting was illegal, so have never done it. It sounds very much like thrashing the car taking the engine above 40 mph in 3rd...

Re: ISPWest Tachometer
Right, as I understand it, for performance gear changes should always be at maximum power, for economy gear changes should be at maximum torque, as I drive for economy, and the maximum torque of 86.8 ft lbs is at 2800 rpm, although using miketyp3 figures, this will mean gear changes 3rd to 4th at ar...

Re: ISPWest Tachometer
Interestingly, I always thought the 1600A twin carb was a 54 bhp engine, turns out that its a 65 bhp engine 1584 cc, 65 bhp, 7.7:1 CR, 86.8 ft.lbs. at 2,800 rpm, 84 mph max, 34 mpg Just for information, the owners manual for the 412LS Variant has the following https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hp...

Re: ISPWest Tachometer
I haven't got a tacho at present, there was a none working clock in the type 3 which is being replaced with the taco when it arrives. I've found details from the 1973 Owners Manual regarding gear changes. https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpt1/v/t1.0-9/12118777_10204879707014148_776227509...

Re: ISPWest Tachometer
62 mph!!!
As I don't take it above 55mph anywhere, I really don't know what to say to that.
I understood maximum power was at 4,000 rpm

ISPWest Tachometer
Hi, I've just invested in a new tachometer to replace the clock in my Squareback, from ISPWest. Having thought about this, I've not really taken the engine beyond 35 to 45 mph in third gear, on my completely stock vehicle; mostly around the outskirts of town I won't take it beyond 35 mph before chan...

Re: Friction Plates
As regards the T4 1700 engine swap into the Late Bay I have here, apart from not knowing whether I need a 210mm or 215mm clutch for the CB Code engine, which is originally out of an Early Bay, I gather there might be an issue with the gearbox input shaft? Would the input shaft off the T4 gearbox fit...

VeeWee
Hi All, I've requested that VeeWee list their present air cooled parts list for fitment to Type 4 411/412 vehicles, since the 411/412 shares the same parts bin and it would make sense if they supported these models. They may approach the Type 3 & 4 Club for help in doing so, not sure if anyone has t...

Re: Friction Plates
I need a new thrust bearing and the pressure plate is scored from the rivets, so I might as well buy a 200mm kit off VeeWee £71.80 plus VAT for the Square. I've no idea on the condition of the parts for the 1700, I'm afraid its a case of sorting one thing at a time here. Just need to confirm the Squ...

Re: Friction Plates
Ok, the AN Code is AN 003825, so thats a 210mm plate, cheers The 1700 is a CB Code CB 003660 I actually have a spare friction plate that came with the 412LS with the 1700 fitted, looks like a 215mm, although this might be a red herring. However, clutches seem to be the bane of my life at the moment,...

Friction Plates
Hi,
What size friction plates do I need?
I have an early Bay 1700 engine fitted to a 412LS gearbox in my 412LS Variant, what is the likely friction plate size?
I also have a completely standard 412LS Variant, 1800 AN Code, what is the likely friction plate size?
Cheers

Re: Wheel price???
Whatever you can get for them is the answer, but please don't sell them to someone with a Beetle, as the ET46 offset is for Type 3 and 4 cars only, and you can't get them with that offset anymore.

I also bought a set from Mike too, the one lead is 36", you just can't get a shop bought set that will fit, never had a problem with the set I had from Mike, and will eventually buy again from him.

Further to the above, I've had the following response from Mathew Edwards from Deva Dubs & Rods 'Hi Wayne If you and Phil can get close to 10 vehicles then I'll sort a plot out, if you can book under one club name that would be helpful. Unfortunately we don't offer discounts but all can save £5 per ...

An old thread, but I think this is worth it being dragged up again. Perhaps because they were never fitted to UK Spec 412s, cast metal headlight surrounds exist in Europe Hella VW Part 411-941-175 left, and 411-941-176 right. I've just taken delivery of a pair from Germany and plan to get them prope...

I'm nearly there, a 76 T2c, 73 T36, 2x 73 T46.
I did own a T1 68 VW 1500 until my son wrote it off after restoration within 1 month of it being put on the road...it's a pain I still carry with me every day.
