Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
I visited an old VW dealership in the middle of Wales this week, they had a diagnostic machine at the back of the workshop. The chap there said it hadn't been used for 30 years, and looking at the layer of dust on it he was probably right. Do you happen to have a contact number? Would they be willi...

You are right, those paint fumes wouldn't take much ignition once they are nicely atomised!
This is the sort of thing ive used, it has a pan function so it sweeps back and forth across a panel for uniformish heating.

Did anybody ever actively use the diagnostic socket
I hope someone did, I expect VW did at a few product launches at the very least

Re: Diagnostic Plug
One that particularly interests me is how they monitored compression, I assume that was something to do with the FI set up Yeah, that was quite interesting, though I don't see why it should only be used for FI engines. Can a man of your abilities do the maths / alogorithm to convert battery voltage...

Are you planning on making your own diagnostic computer :) A couple of guys are using arduino to create GPS based trip computers for the T25's I dont really know what im planning, I just wanted one for the novelty. Could have been an easy jumpstart point if ever required. I think I've only ever see...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
It seems to be the lack of oven, the panels are baking nicely with the IR heater now, Im not too frustrated, its nice to move back to more mechanical jobs and theres nothing to stop me colour sanding it when it warms up next year. My local powder coaters just got a nice new oven which I might see if...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
Well as good as that rear panel looks, the rest of it is causing some bother. Still being left with scratches and swirl marks in enough places to upset me. I flatted the boot lid right back once again. I expect its my last chance before I get through to primer! https://d0lqnw.am.files.1drv.com/y4mQp...

Great news, sounds like a fairly small project, ready for next year then :D I wouldn't bother with flickr unless you are prepared to pay. Samsung have recently bought them and as from January next year there will be a hosting fee once you have more than 1000 photos on there. I suppose it will depend...

So its your first fastback rather than the first 68 fastback off the production line?
Whats the long term plan? do you have any photos? Are you modifying anything, what colour is it/are you going for?

That floor is fantastic, looks as good as OEM stuff, if the car wasn't so obviously a custom job that would look like its just rolled off the production line

I mean I spend a bit of time visiting forums searching for useful reference photos and save them to my PC before the hosting site knocks them off line. Then if anyone asks about that topic in future i post the photo up.
