That explains the different part numbers then. I had a close look at my 411 (1972) and 412 (1973) Variants today and as far as I could see the doors are identical. I measured the door handle recesses (amongst other things).

Re: Any site for buy heater tubes
Which tubes do you need? I think I will have the ones for under the back seat but not the others.

Re: 411 to 412
All of these should be interchangeable. I may be able to help with some parts if you're looking for them. The main differences between 411 and 412 are the visible ones: all 4 wings, bonnet, lights, Variant tailgate, and less obviously the front brakes. Of course the 1800 twin carb engine in the 412L...

Re: Type 4 wheel cylinders
Hi Paul Just saw your post now. According to my URO parts book of years ago (1994!) the same part - 311-611-067C - does T3 saloons from 1965 model year, T3 Variants from 1966 model year, and all T4s. Hope this helps. Repair kits as you say are shared with Beetle fronts but the cylinders have a diffe...

Re: Bolts for resto
I don't think you'll find anyone doing a full set, but I've seen someone on ebay doing pan bolts and the spreader plates. Be very careful with stainless fasteners on anything even moderatly loaded - most are like cheese. Try to use 10.9 or 12.9 grade (its written on the bolt head) where possible & ...

Re: Inner arch rusted through! help
It's a long time since I've had a Type 3 and I've never done serious bodywork on one but I would echo what the others have said - get stuck into it and enjoy! I can't remember where the warm air goes (from the heater) but the pipe inside the sill is visible in your photo, so don't block it. And if y...

Re: Another Sale weekend at the Elderly Gents House!
I bought one of the 412 bonnets. The other isn't so shiny but is in very good, solid condition.

Re: Another Sale weekend at the Elderly Gents House!
I'm still none the wiser where this Elderly Gents House actually is, I wouldn't mind a good look around, I've actually secured a tow bar now but there's still bits of trim, and of course I'm still on the look out for 3 point high back seats, even though I've sourced some low backs. Send a PM to Pur...

Re: Another Sale weekend at the Elderly Gents House!
I am planning to go to the sale so if any club members living between Bath and Inverness who are unable to go in person could PM me with what you want, I will see what I can do for you. Please state parts, acceptable condition, maximum price and contact phone number. If I haven't enough space I will...

2001 is long enough ago for it to be sitting in a barn or garden somewhere without having to be sorned.

Re: Another Sale weekend at the Elderly Gents House!
I'm thinking about travelling the length of the country for the weekend. Is there much Type 4 stuff left? (I'll be interested in the sills.)

Re: Hello from South Wales.
If you're willing to learn a bit about mechanics you should get on fine with a good Type 3. Main thing to check is the bodywork: look for rust in the floor, sills, under the back seat and in the front inner wings (especially on post-1970 models). Good heating is a sure sign of a good one. Once you'v...

Are you still looking for a cable? I have just about finished breaking one of my 411s and could do you one.

difference between 411 types
Hi Todd, I see no-one's answered your questions yet so in case you haven't found out by now, here goes. The 411 was the original Type 4 and the 412 was the facelifted version from 1973 model year (Aug 72). The biggest difference was the front end styling with the 412 having an angular, slightly cut-...
