Re: New Repair Panels?

The front floorpan edges would have been very useful when I was repairing my T34.
I had to buy T14 Karmann Ghia panels and modify them.
Wasn't there someone asking about them recently?

Re: timing twin carb 1600

TDC timing is the static setting for the dual vacuum advance & retard distributors originally fitted to those engines. If you don't have this type of distributor (SVDA or 009) then 7.5 BTDC is most common static setting to get you started. A good idea to check the full advance with a timing light as...

Re: Fuel tank sock

The best way is still from the bottom. Its a top hat profile the lower part is a soft aluminium ring. If you look at a new one (beetle part) then it would be obvious.

Yes, but you also need the bearing caps to match and to machine 20mm off the type 3 drum / hub (nut face).

No, that's not an original.
They are normally a bit taller than that. They push on to a "mushroom" feature formed on the bracket.

Re: hard to start

I know it sounds daft, but are the battery connections good and tight?
I've had a similar thing happen when I've just pushed the leads on to quickly start and move a car.

Re: offside front top suspension arm inner bush ....

I found this Clare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd2MH2vVgxk (parts 2 & 3 as well) It shows how to remove the lower bush using a home made tool - the upper should be the same in principle and require the same tool. I don't have any inner bushes btw, only the spacers, outer bearings and seals. Mike

Re: offside front top suspension arm inner bush ....

Hi Clare, I may have some, but replacement is not easy as the outer bearings & spacers have to be removed (in tact) and that requires a special puller. Its worth checking first the play cannot be adjusted out using the bolt on the RHS. The procedure has been covered on here many times, this was just...

Re: Hi there newbie with 71 Fastback, Tech help required.

Hi & welcome to the group. I don't know enough about fuel injection to advise, but there's a few on here that really know the system inside out (Dave!) so I hope they will be along to help you soon. In the mean time there are some seals and other parts here: https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/type3/typ...

I don't know anywhere in particular, but a machine shop / engineer local to you that have manual machines.
Get the studs first. I got mine from Machine 7, length depends on the wheels & they can advise.

Re: Rear hubs redrilling- 4/130 to 5/130 Fuchs

You must use studs that press in from the back of the hub. There is not enough thickness in the hub where the new holes are for threaded studs.

Re: 1971 Fastback question, What windshield

Windshields tend to fair better than most other parts of the car... in fact here they are often the only bit worth saving!
They are not usually a problem to find, but it's certainly worth making enquiries before you purchase the car.
Where are you based? Someone may know a contact nearby.

Re: 1971 Fastback question, What windshield

Ok, I see now...
The windscreen is VW Type 3 specific, so one from any year Fastback, Squareback (Variant) or Notchback will fit.
If you need a seal ISP West http://www.vwispwest.com/ in the US (I presume that's where you are) can supply new ones.

I'm not sure what you mean, but they are usually toughened, although a laminated version was available for certain places they were sold and a more modern replacement may also be laminated.
Is that the information you wanted?

I'm sorry to say Tony I don't think I have them any more. I had a good look over the weekend and yesterday found the flaps and wires, but the bits you need are not with them. As I said, I remember taking a picture of them for someone, so it looks like I let them go. Unfortunately they are the sort o...
