Bit of a pain as the case is the original factory installed '62 engine, it has been rebuilt with 1600 single port heads with twin solex carbs and dizzy is a vacuum one for type 3 jur 4 311 905 205 G When I timed it with a snap on light I set the light to 10deg and lined it with the left hand notch. ...

can anyone help please?

Which one of these marks is TDC and what are the others?

I think the left (bottom in pic) is TDC then 7.5, 10 and 12 .............. is that right??

I got the crush washers from eBay. Seem to remember it was a motorbike spares place. I just measured the diameter and searched eBay. I expect the jubilee clips would be on there too.

Would stainless steel be suitable or would it be the same as copper and likely to get stress fractures. Not keen on using copper as it’s a bit soft...... You just need a letter from a local Vw garage or your local club on some headed paper so they know who wrote it. Not sure if this club has a anyone but I know the ssvc club can do valuations at shows.
