Before you launch into it,you might just check a few things for yourself- Are wheel bolts correctly tightened?? Are the bearings noisy or just out of adjustment??(you might be able to just nip them up a bit) Does your mot man know about aircooled vw's?? Do you trust him??(is he looking for work)?? A...

Depends how deep your pockets are! You could consider new discs & pads at the same time on the front, At the rear(which isnt a very nice job)You ought to assess the state of the CV boots,whilst its all apart Obviously youll need a torque wrench,a 36mm socket,length of strong pipe,& pair of bathroom ...

fronts are a doddle-just buy wheel bearing kits for a golf (about £6 Each)
For the rear use T1 cv jointed-GSF no:41301(inner) & 41302(outer)(about £20 per side)

Its easily accessed if You just take the front wheel off! I think theres an item in the club technical manual,but theres lots of ways to bodge it up-I used normal fuel hose of the right Diameter,Dave Hall advocates the addition of spiral binding to prevent the hose from kinking,or you can solder on ...

in the case of the vent hose its around '71 ish,but makes no difference as both hoses are identical except the later one is 5mm shorter

You have to put the trim in the rubber,before you fit the window,but you dont fit the joining/finishing clips til its on the car
They really ought to know that to be honest!its a pretty much universal thing with pretty much all classic cars,not just vw's!

Is it a locking cap that you just havent got the key for??-Your description sounds like the normal locking mechanism..in which case,put a screwdriver in the key slot,& give it a smart whack with a hammer
