ah thanks for that dave. was searching for ages last night and found one supplier but i didn't find that one.
i saw some on ebay that says its 65mm but it turns out to be the outside diameter. i need the 65 to be the inside diameter or it wont go onto the airbox.

carb inlet ducting question

hi all. i'm gradually finding all the parts to get my type4 engine running in standard form, but i've no idea of what VW used in some of the cases. one of these is the tubular duct that feeds air from the outside to the inlet on the airbox. its a carbed engine with the plasic square airbox that take...

also, have a look at the shift rod coupling. its underneath the car just in front of the gearbox front mount. take the coverplate off and see if its falling about loose or perhaps the rubber parts have got sloppy.

hi jim. i've recently sold a flywheel to a guy on here that is converting his type4 to manual. maybe he has a driveplate. i'll have a search and look for him and get back to you with his username. that is if you haven't found one yet.

hi haz. you can fit the early trim but you would have to drill the holes larger to get the rubber bungs and clips in the holes. i had to fit wings from a slightly later car onto my 67 square and the holes were for the narrow trim. the offside front wing on the slightly later model has the petrol fil...

hi dan. i've had a look and while i think its possible, it wouldn't be an easy job. you would have to do a bit of grinding off the seams and possibly a bit of welding being careful not to "cook" the inner bush inside the beam. i've taken some pics of either end so you can see the difference and exac...

spindles are not the same as a bug and i can't find anyone who is doing any dropped items for the type3. airkweld in the states threatened to do some a couple of years ago but nothing has come to light yet. bert T3 have a few good ideas on type3s but i don't know if he has any. you'd be looking at a...

hi danny. well as far as i can remember when i had my beam out, it was a pretty easy job. the treaded hole for the steering damper is there on both sides. there's a rubber bung in the hole thats not being used. least thats what mine was like. can't see a prob but i'm sure someone will tell us if the...

anyone using 36/40 PDSIT on their 412 question???

hi all. i'm in the throws of re-fitting my 1.7 but i cant remember what carb i use for the vac advance. i'm using a pair of 36/40 PDSIT. both carbs have a take-off but one passes more air than the other when i connect a tube up and suck. (sorted this one! its the left carb for timing advance) does a...

hiya jon. are you after front or rear mounts? there are some on the market. i remember seeing a thread on one forum sometime ago on the subgect of narrowing a type3 beam. its a big job on the type3 beam as really, shortening the tortion bars is out of the question due to the safety aspect. i can tell you that there is no way i would trust a welded tortion bar. just not on. ...

hi shawn. well that stuff looks ok. think i will see if i get any leaks and get some if the o'l wet comes in. on the other hand, it would seem that in cold conditions it takes about 30-40 mins to cure, so if you're quick! bung it on before you fit! risky?!!

hi shawn. i'm willing to give it a try but what seal did you use and did you use it before you fitted the screen to the car or after?

when i think of all the work i've put into this square, i never thought i'd be held up for a month with glass fitting problems!

here'a couple of pics of the screen seal i have next to the one that came out. the size is so far out, i must have the wrong one. i've put it next to the fasty rear screen and its too long to fit that, so i've no idea what it is now. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c83/aircoolsteve/sreenrub2.jpg h...

well it didn't go on the glass easily but it is possible without it being obvious that it is the wrong seal. it is phisically smaller in extrusion than the proper seal. i have a rear screen from a fasty and i've measured round it and its pretty close to that of the front screen. one thing for sure, ...

i remember dave saying that the repro seals are lacking a bit in size. the front screen seal i have takes the trim but is thinner when compared to the one that came out. is it possible that i've been sold a rear rubber for a fastback maybe? the sizes are quite similar.

hi shawn. thanks for the imput. i think that pert of the problem is that the side rear seals, although are VW items, are a little on the hard side. i'm now working on the front screen and that, along with the rear, has a new seal. much softer rubber. however, it was sprayed with some kind of wax coa...
