Re: Garage sale in Bath 8/9 September
First Type 4 owner goes home with a car full! That was the teaser for me, but as there's a local type 4 involved it doesn't seem to make sense any longer for me to make the very early morning journey as I suspect what will be left will be stuff I won't need like the plastic headlight surrounds. Tho...

Re: Garage sale in Bath 8/9 September
Guess I'll change my plans about the 540 mile round trip & not bother coming then. Shame, it would have been a good opportunity to meet people in real life as well.

Re: Engine oil
I've just been through the same discussion over on the T25 forum :) looking at oil pressure at different temperatures and oils. I did a lot of measuring. I looked in my type 4 handbook for the 412LS and was surprised to see that in there they were still recommending single grade oil. I thought that ...

Re: Engine oil
Millers make good oils, but you shouldn't be using single grade, 20W50 or 15W50 should be fine.

Bit more ride height and camber required ?
Stiffer springs for slicks too, swapping torsion bars over isn't going to be easy, even if you have them

Re: Hard start relay
If it works with a direct cable to the solenoid connection then the starter is fine, it's the cable from the ignition switch to the solenoid that has deteriorated. Lots of micro breaks and corrosion along the length giving voltage drop. A starter relay will solve that problem, because you will be ru...

Wondered what happened to that - Texas Yellow. I looked at it a couple of years ago, never got round to finding the space and hooking back up with the guy. I think you've got you work cut out there, big project.

Even simpler, make sure that you are getting full throttle when the accelerator is pressed. Took mine to Croft yesterday for the Heritage meeting. Overtaking modern cars on the back roads, elsewhere 70 with not much more than a tickle on the throttle. She's not running right on initial pick up, some...

Re: Ignition problem
Hmm, now that's an interesting question, the answer to which is of course that I don't know.
Points open = no circuit for LT side, so no EM field in HT circuit and no coil damage ?
My running one is an LS so no fuel pump relay etc to worry about
Better to be lucky than good

Well that is a surprise............ I suppose now I'll have to admit doing the same thing, flat battery but coil still absolutely fine. Figure that out, I can't.

Re: Ignition problem
It doubt it will have been on for 8 hours, the battery probably went flat before then. I'd agree coil will be burnt out, I wouldn't expect there would be other damage. Fingers crossed.

There were more of us than that, four or five I seem to recall, 250 miles that day, rough running most of the way back as the balance pipe rubbers had perished again.
