mine is one of those universal pod thingies, think halfords even sell them. I fitted a piece of MDF between the bottom lip of the dash down to the bulkhead if you like just above the kick plates. the pod was then fitted to this. mind you, all my air box gubbins is removed so may not work the same on...

mine must be late mk1 GTI calipers as they were for vented (slotted) discs.
Kerscher discs were 20mm like GTI ones.
my GTI pads are the large crescent shaped ones.
very minor clearancing was required to the carriers to clear the vented discs.

i've got a late model fasty with the larger spaced caliper bolts.
running kersher (CSP) vented front discs (20mm thick) with Golf GTI Mk1 calipers that pretty much bolts straight on.
be interesting to see your setup

a bit limited in standard 4 stud fitment, most people (inc. me) go for re-drilled hubs and fit ones from other vehicles.

I'd go with play in the top trailing arms. easy to adjust, just don't overdo it.

you would of known if it was fitted to the wrong notch, as the razor ghia is low slung the anlgle of the steering column is lower.
yes there is some degree of out of alignment hence the coupling.
