Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

nice work - I like US spec running lights on front - late 3s rock :-) Yeh, they were wired like this when I bought the car. I like them too :) When i did the re-build I found that there wasn't actually any side light bulbs in the head lights, so I decided to extend the wiring and re-fit new side li...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

I've now started on my sounds :D . I don't want them to look out of place so trying to do every thing as basic as I can (well that's the limit of my skills anyway) Luckily I originally bought the car with a bamboo shelf, which i hadn't got round to fitting, so this has become the platform for all th...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

The wheels are a nice contrast to the rest of the car and given its rare to see tele's in anything other than silver or black. I like. Those tubbs seem to have been let if very nicely, how does the top shock mount? It looks like the ear on the beam is close to the inner arch so you wouldnt be able ...

Re: Indicator flashing

Thing is it's taken me 3 years to really think about it :retard: I do still have a problem i think with the instrument cluster, when the ignition is off and the hazards are put on the fuel gauge swings with the same frequency as the hazards :D. So I guess there is an earth fault still (and probably ...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

Ok, so another update; so having been to 2 car shows I've got my car showing mojo back. So this winter I've decided to take the car up another notch (Pardon the pun) for next years shows and beyond. So under some secrecy the car has been at Eva Resto for the last 5 weeks having some serious suspensi...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

It's been a while so thought I'd do a few updates (Seeing that I've had some special work done :D ) So after finally getting the car running I went to 2 car shows late Summer, the Classic Car show at Thoresby Hall and the Drivers Collection with Clique 53 car club. Some Pics: Thoresby Classic Car Sh...

No, that's how they work, both dash lights flash at the same time.
Thanks Sparkywig, that clears that up (Don't I feel a wally now)

Indicator flashing

As I've not seen another Type 3 to compare, I don't know what the "norm" is, but when I select an indicator (Either side) both the left and right green lights in the instrument cluster illuminate and flash (Like they would do with hazards). Now that I've been out in it more I've thought a bit more a...

Re: ALTERNATOR CONVERSION ON TYPE 3

That’s doable, I can fab a bracket up no problem. Just need an alternator more than 40amp, 50/60/70 would be better. I’ll do an interweb search sure there will be a high output mini alternator out there somewhere

Re: ALTERNATOR CONVERSION ON TYPE 3

Yeah thats a type 1/2 alternator. If youre planning go that route, it can be done much cheaper, thats generic universal alternator. Ive used it on a few things. Ill get the details off the box tomorrow. But a quick googles brought uo this https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/compact-lightweight-40-amp-alt...

@ Broady. That's the beetle set up i guess? That's too much metal work and removal for me. Re: ALTERNATOR CONVERSION ON TYPE 3

Mine has a Mazda rx7 conversion too...very small alternator & looks a very tidy conversion.(not done by me). I did it! was quite easy and cheap to do.. just need to adapt a strap and grind a bit of the case way for it to sit straight in. Mark. Hey Mark, do you have any more details on the alternato...

@Aaronslimvw
Thanks.
I've been dropping Max at Evaresto emails regarding the front and rear. Seems to know his stuff. I saw one of the cars he has done at a car show on Sunday and it looked mental (might have been you?).
Hopefully, if the price is right I can get some work done front and rear. :)

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning

Rust areas look the same as what I had hidden under all the outer panels etc of my car. You may find that under the battery tray sound deadening that it may be a bit worse. Unfortunately there aren't many reproduction panels for these. I bought brand new sills and heater channels, and made all the o...

Hi Aaron, really interested in knowing a bit more on your limebug front beam? How's the quality? Did you get it fully built up with leaves, bushes, grease seals all fitted? Also what air shocks do you have (I've got monroe shocks) and what travel do you get from lowest to highest ride height. Apolog...

Thanks guys, that'll keep me busy over winter.

Now that the cars alive now, 2020 show season becons and my audio install is on the list to do, alternator is a must (even if I've got 2 batteries and a split charge system).

I'll update my build thread when I do it. :D

Do you have any details on your conversion? I might look at doing this over the next winter. :D

Whether it's right or wrong, I had to put a small amount of silicone lube on my new runners, as the seats were very difficult to move. They move much more freely now.
