Yep, snow foam works a treat on 12 months worth of grime and bird sh*t.

Gave the old nail a good wash tonight, first one for over a year. Got a bit of love back.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

There's a chap in Bristol that does 4 wheel alignment, corner weights, etc on race cars, and is reasonably priced.
I'd try and find a motorsport place near you to set it up.

Re: External oil cooler location

I think I'll go with a smaller cooler rather than the 36 row pictured. Then it can be mounted at an angle under the heat exchanger and ducted.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

It came out of a buggy, and it's not warmed up there.
It's only temporary though, so I can actually use the car rather than it just sit by the kerb rotting away.
When the stroker engine is finally built I'm fitting an electric pump under the tank and redo all the pipework and filters.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Engine case and parts still at machinists, that will be a year today....
Hopefully can collect all the parts next week and send it off for building, then swap the gearbox and axles.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Well, I appear to have a running engine again. https://i.postimg.cc/7LDWGt3Y/IMG-6437.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/CMfs0H8v/IMG-6434.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/rFXCw0Cq/IMG-6436.jpg It's been quite frustrating really. External oil cooler location

Hello all.
Any of you running external oil coolers above the gearbox, can you post some pics please?
Thanks.

The plastic seat runner guides that you found are from Simon Kelley (notch1500), so they'll be OK.

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning

Yes, bio-ethanol is worse apparently.
When I take the bus to Europe it runs awful, pops and bangs due to the higher ethanol content in Euro fuel.

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning

I decided to scratch my head a bit on the accelerator pump problem, so first of all I needed to understand how they work. Have you seen this, handy pdf for Solex carbs http://oacdp.org/solex.html#q25 I'm still scratching my head as to why a roughened surface would cause a difference in the quantity...

Just to make you aware that VW Heritage don't sell proper fuel hose despite all their continued assurances.
Get it from Brickwerks using the link above.

There should be a rubber gasket under the pump, couldn't see one in the pics.
The heads need to come off to replace the pushrod tubes.

Re: Type 3 tinware

OK, thanks. Not sure about the blue ones as they have no signs of any modifications, especially around the spark plug/inlet manifold opening. Are FI tins different? That seems plausible about the smaller head tins, and also means all my sled tins are Type1/Type2 as they don't easily fit at the flywh...

Type 3 tinware

I've been going through boxes of parts to try and assemble a full set of tinware for my stroker engine. The only guide I have is below. I'm probably not fitting heat exchangers, so don't need the fresh air tubes and mixing pods which I have. https://i.postimg.cc/Kv9rCcST/IMG-6332.jpg I have a full s...

Just use a bicycle pump to pressurise the washer bottle. Then leave it in the "boot" for next time.

Re: Silly question of the day.

Have you checked that the bulb's not blown?
If it has the alternator won't charge as the bulb is part of the exciter circuit to start charging.
