Type 3 luxuries.

How many of you have splurged on type 3 expensive goodies?? Whats the most expensive item you have on your cars. My most recent was a set of Sprintstars and tyres for 400 yo yo's. I am contemplating a set of stainless steel bumpers, but not sure of the expense yet. And is it too extravagent for a ca...

Re: Fastback Restoration

I found heat gun and careful gentle approach a lot quicker at peeling off underseal,
than any wirebrush. And a lot less messier as well.

Re: '73 Fastback Project

WElcome back :D I think its fair to say every fastback resto suffers interruptions at some stage of the process, and will continue to do so, as its very nature is a long ongoing process. But the important thing is not to lose sight of the endgoal. Splitting the body and floor pan is the only way to ...

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.

Far more comfortable seats than the original to be fair. Greast adjustment in the seat base as well, raising the base at a flick of the lever. The blocks fitted well to the base leg, and were tight enough to fit to be honest. If I had made them slightly thinner it would have cured this. But I said I...

Re: 1972 fastback. nwe 532k

I managed to grab a set of Sprintstars with new tyres from a local beetle owner who decided on
a set of smoothies for his car.

Looking better already. Not long now before I can bring it out and break in the rings.

Re: any idea if bug parts will if late fastback??????

Early 90's Scirroco seats will fit with a bit of ingenuity As they stand they are about 15 mm narrower than the existing rails fitted in the later 72's onwards when VW changed the older toothed sliding rails. So you would either have to form additioinal blocks to make up the difference either side, ...

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.

Managed to design the block in Fusion 360, and printed a test piece for fit. Tried for fit and good to go. Printed off 2 blocks for one seat and offered up blocks to the car rails for fit. Cleaned the rails, grease, and jobs a goodun. https://i.imgur.com/dpGb4gV.jpg https://i.imgur.com/B8K7mDu.jpg h...

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.

Picked up a decent set of front seats from a Scirroco gt today. Early nineties vintage I think, guy had them for years in his shed. Quick check on dimensions says I need to widen each side by approximately 7mm. So I am going to draw up a block on Fusion 360 and 3d print a test block. Once it fits I ...

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.

I saw a post on here of someone that fitted corrado 3 point seats to a type 3. Might look for a set of them. I dont really want to break out the welder and grinder again, cant be backpeddling. Like I said I have the early set of seats that fit the rails, and adjusted by the outside adjuster on the s...

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.

Just checked the beetle seats. And of course they are different.

So i either need 3 point fasty seats. Probably as rare as hens teeth.

Or weld in the old rails to match existing seats. Open to any other suggestions.???

Fastback 3 point seats.

Quick question.

Are fastback 3 point seats the same size as a beetle 3 point seat.

Just discovered that the replacement floor fitted into my fastback has the 3 point setup.

The original floor had the sliding rail arrangement with the adjuster and removal lever on the seat.

Re: Fastback Restoration

Par for the course on the restos of fastbacks.

Many interesting methods were used to keep the fasty on the road.
Most of them have innovative repairs putting off the only real solution.

If in doubt, cut it out. You will be glad you did.

Re: 1972 fastback. nwe 532k

In the local boot sale last week and picked up some great bargains. Large stock of engineering gear some chap who passed away, was being sold off at the booter. Amazing thing was the hoards of booters went mad for some cheap tat that was for sale at the nearby stall. I was left to scoop up 2 perfect...
