Re: Fan pulley gasket

I've just spent £30ish on gaskets for the two engines, so two would be great.
Thanks Jim.

Re: Fan pulley gasket

That's the one Jim. Where did you get them from?
I need two really, one for the temporary engine and another for the stroker build.

Fan pulley gasket

Does anybody know where you can get the paper gasket that sits on the snout of the fan pulley?

I'm back home with new enthusiasm. Heads off to check it's not another duff one. https://i.postimg.cc/50q777TW/IMG-6197.jpg Seem OK for a temporary engine that's been sitting for quite a few years. https://i.postimg.cc/qvRPtTYh/IMG-6199.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/TYkSvswR/IMG-6200.jpg https://i.postim...

So, progress stalled due to a couple of things. New daily was one. https://i.postimg.cc/8cpkS2cP/IMG-6033.jpg And then an extended trip to the Freddyfiles via Calais and Gent. https://i.postimg.cc/fLSDRKcp/IMG-6059.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/kG71pMgs/IMG-6083.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/sXGGC5vD/IMG_6138...

If you want to read about VW's, home built aircraft and other stuff, try the Bob Hoover pages. He's the bloke the "Hoover bit" on type 1 engines is named after.
Unfortunately they've only saved 2006 to his death in 2010, but they're worth reading.

Re: 1972 fastback. nwe 532k

I was never an officianado of the mods and upgrades on v dubs. This slamming and narrowing of cars makes them undriveable, and I dont understand it. I prefer stock. Horses for courses, it would be boring if we all liked the same things. 🙂 All my VWs are modified, narrowed, lowered and two have stro...

Re: 1972 fastback. nwe 532k

There is no machining required for 87mm (1641cc) barrels and pistons, you can refit 85.5mm standard bore without any issues. I ran 88mm (1679cc) barrels and pistons in my old '72 bus. They're the largest you can fit without any machining. Never had an issue with them, or the Weber twin choke carb th...

Re: Type 3 clocks

My clock is the same and never goes into place properly, and therefore loses time because the springs earth the body.
I don't know about different clock bodies though.

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Thanks for the oil coolers Peter. Gave the engine a good clean, so a bit more progress, but it's painfully slow. I really need to pull my finger out next weekend and get on with it. https://i.postimg.cc/qRH0GKbY/9-DQWY7-SGS-Sy5-D4-K20l-Hd-A.jpg I'll strip it down to a long block and then pull the he...

Yes, I'm taking the softly softly approach and using grips to work the shaft back and forward.
No success so far though.

OK, thanks Peter.
I removed the circlips and washers and administered copious wallops earlier after dosing with WD40.
Didn't know whether heat would be OK, but I'll try that tomorrow.

I would hazard a guess that they arent, simply because the beetle has a sloping wing, so it would be more a crescent moon sort of shape in profile where as the type 3 is more of a half moon. If you understand what I mean? And if ive rightly understood that were talking about the part of the wing, r...

I know the early cars have the same Hella headlights as type 1s and type2s, not sure about later cars though.

EDIT: Just checked the part number 311 941 039 F fits type 1 MY 1968-1973, type 2 MY 1968-1972 and type 3 all years.

Hello, I'm back. Lost interest in things for a few months as I was a bit unwell. Well, to be more accurate I had a probable TIA at the beginning of October. But now I'm almost back to normal, just lost a bit of dexterity and sensation on my right hand side and I have a constant headache. So it's tim...
