Re: Badge Clips
That’s them. But they will not fit our 1966 Beetle. Even tried leaving them in hot water to soften them up. The ones it needs would have to be 3.8 - 4 mm external 3.0 - 3.2 mm internal. The Pins on the VW Badge are exactly 3.2mm. Did all the measuring with a thing for measuring Drill sizes.

Not strictly Type 3 or 4 but still VW. I have bought Bonnet Badge Nylon Inserts from 2 different VW sources under the Part Number everyone says is correct 113 853 615 They do not fit the holes in the Bonnet of our 1966 Beetle. The Nylon Inserts are 4.8mm od. The holes are less than 4mm 3.8mm is my b...

Due to lack of Air Cooled VWs around here, I may be wrong about that but I don’t see any, we joined Lakeland Historic Car Club a few years ago. Great excitement as there had never been any Air Cooled VWs in the Club. There are still only our 1966 Beetle and 1972 Variant in the Club. If anyone is int...

Re: Tatton park 5 August
Gave up on VW Northwest 8 or 9 years ago. Went then looking for parts when planning the Body Off rebuild of the Type 3. Found nothing. Hardly any Aircooled stuff at all. Used to go religiously every year, if I could get the day off work. Took Variant to Leighton Hall Classic Car Show last Sunday, 1s...

Headlamp Reflectors
Please can anyone tell me if the Headlamp Reflector “ bridge piece thingys “ are supposed to be removed when you fit Halogen Bulbs in place of the original round bulbous Tungsten Bulbs ? New Hella Reflectors come with the “ bridge piece thingys “ in place. I have some old Headlamps with Halogen Bulb...

Found the Front Indicator positions now on thesamba.com Drawings, measurements. No problem. Now please can anyone answer the question of the Headlamp Reflectors when using the Halogen upgrade Bulbs ? Should the “ bridge piece thingys “ be removed for that ? Sorry. Don’t know what that bit is called ...

Re: Indicator Lamp Position(s)
Pete, Might work but I don’t know. The Beetle is a 1966. Don’t know if the later inficators were in the same position as the 1957 - 1963. On photos they look further forward and closer in to the 1/4 Panels to me. Looked at new Wings On Line to see if that might tell me but they come without Indicato...

Indicator Lamp Position(s)
O.K. I know this is the Type 3 & 4 Club but please can anyone tell me the Correct Positions On the tops of the Front Wings for 1957 - 1963 Beetle Front Indicator Lamps ? When it had the “ Body Off “ rebuild I foolishly had “ USA Style “ Headlamps fitted. They turned out to have rubbish chrome, so no...

Re: Dizzy problems
That sounds like the common fault of wear with these Ignition Switches. Try releasing the Key a bit when cranking it over. Sometimes when fully over to the cranking position the contacts are lost. Release the Key a bit and the contacts made again.

Re: Rear heat exchanger studs 71 squareback
Confused about Back and Front. Rear Heat Exchanger Studs to me would be for the Secondary Heat Exchangers i.e nearest to the Rear of the car. When I did my rebuild all the Stud Nuts came undone OK except for one on the Front Right ( Main ) Heat Exchanger. Felt like it was coming undone like all the ...

Probably the only Good Value is an Original Type 3 Silencer. Second best the Conversion to Type 4 Silencer.

From what I remember it's Interior Door Handles off, Door Card off, Drop Glass out. Just looked them up on www.vwispwest.com $65 each but the Shipping cost may be prohibitive ? I bought everything I needed from them for my Type 3 Rebuild in one order so it was all sent together. You may find that th...

Got mine from vwispwest.com They are perfect direct replacements. I wasted a lot of time trying to fix my original ones by making new stainless steel backing strips. Not sure if the Clutch Linings drying out with standing bit is just a myth, or has someone had that happen to their Auto Transmission ? Re: choke/ fuel/ carb problems
Have you tried releasing the Ignition Key a bit while Cranking the Engine over to Start ? The Ignition Switches on these wear with age and use, such that with the Key in the Ignition On position you can test for Spark at the Plugs etc and all will seem OK. But when you move the Key to the Start posi...

CSP in Germany do the Inner Sills complete with the Heater Tubes. Not cheap but they have them in stock. VW Heritage also list them. Probably from the same manufacturer ? I agree the Timing Should be the same for Electronic Ignition. However when I tried fitting an Electronic Ignition on my Type 3 the Timing Marks meant absolutely nothing. Just had to find Position for the Distributor to be in where the Engine would Start then set it by ear until it ran the best. Whe...

alex d, thank you for that. The Late Type 3 Front Brakes are same as 411 / 412
Rear Brake Shoes are same as 1302 / 1303 Front Brake Shoes
Looks like you need someone who has, or is Breaking a Type 3 of the same year as yours.
Volksfarmers maybe ?

Re: Where to take ignition live for stereo from?
Variant passed MOT, of course. Everything working, including Air Operated Screenwash. Went for a bit of a local tour after the Test to show it to some enthusiasts at a local Tyre Depot. Variant is driving really nice while on the move. It just does not want to keep ticking over for very long. Slowly...
