Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

This weekend gone, I did a bit of work on the engine and engine bay. I decided to get rid of the tired engine cover temperature foam that I'd held together with some silver foil tape during the resto. Fitted with some new stuff from ebay and a roll of silver temp cloth tape (Much better tape). https...

Also decided to paint my discs and calipers. As they are Porsche pattern discs with Porsche spacers on too, I thought it'd look nicer them being the same colour, plus the new discs just get surface rust on them so easily. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49562551577_1496801f96_c.jpg https://live....

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

Couple of updates. i fixed my wing mirror, thankfully. I cut the old arm stud off flush, drilled and tapped a new hole and whacked in some new m6 threaded rod (with a bit of loctite). :D :D :D Seems to be holding up pretty well. So I've been able to tighten both aspects of the mirror up so that it's...

Would love to, but it's a million miles from me and it'd take 2 days to get there :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Likewise for the Volksworld show, just to far away :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Re: '67 Square continued.....

Fingers crossed for you

My pedal is pretty hard and brakes are good. Not had it MOT’d so don’t know what the rear brakes are going to be like, seems fine on the road though. Mines a 944 cylinder not a 924.

I wonder why your 944 cylinder is no good if it’s designed for rear disc brakes?

Looks much cleaner without the holes. Hoping so. Should look ok with some paint on. :D Gutted tonight, busted my passenger wing mirror whilst trying to sort the floppyness :tear: :tear: :( :(     I stripped the small stud thread. I might be able to cut it off and drill a...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

The to do list jsut doesn't sem to be getting any smaller. If anything it's getting bigger. Even the smallest of jobs seems to be taking forever. So, this last week I decided to make a start on the bodywork. I had noticed a pool of water in the wheel well after picking the car up from having it's su...

Re: '67 Square continued.....

If that's a CSP master cylinder I hope you get better joy than I did. 3 master cylinders later, I had to get my money back and fit a porsche 924 master cylinder (Which worked a treat and brakes are awesome). All the CSP master cylinders that were sent to me weeped out of every orifice. See my build ...

There should be a spring that fits above the dome nut, and yes, a flexible washer behind the mirror stops the paint being damaged.
Thanks, thought as much, I'll get a couple of seals ordered up then. Hopefully have a spring knocking about somewhere in the garage.

Wing mirrors

It's been on my to do list for awhile. My wing mirrors are a bit floppy, so I ground down an 18mm spanner and filed it open until it fit (I think it may have been a 19mm nut but didn't want to butcher a usable spanner  ) So I've removed the wing mirror, tightened up the 10mm nut that goes on th...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

This last weekend and evenings this week, have been simply re-wiring and wiring the audio in. Whilst the radio has been removed it's given me decent access underneath the dash, so I have fitted a retro style lighter in the dash (Where I had originally fitted my screen wash button) and subsequently r...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

Next was to create a sub woofer box. Now I'm going to upset a few folks here. So I didn't want to just ahve a run of the mill carpeted box, it just wouldnt look right. I toyed with a suitcase, nice idea and all, but done by many people. So I opted to try my luck at popping one in an Aircooled Access...

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

So it's been a slow and laborious jobs doing the audio install (It was supposed to be a relatively easy and quick job in my head). So a week back I completed mounting the amp to the back of the seat (bootside). Used M6 riv screws into MDF, niffty little things, allows me to hide and bolt everything ...

Re: Instrument Cluster bulbs

Ok, for those that are interested :paranoid: here's my run down on the LED's I've fitted green LED's to the Tacho, Speedometer and the Fuel Gauge cluster. Makes a big difference over standard, only pitfall is that the adjustable brightness does not work (As they are LED's, and non-dimming), I can li...

Christmas wish list

So has anyone asked Santa for any new bits for their car this year? :D :D :D

Mine came a bit early what with my EvaResto suspension, but I've asked Santa for a new wooden gear knob and window winders.

Hope I've been nice :?

Classy and dignified, just a like type 3. What its like with the parcel shelf? Ive never had one fitted. Noticed you've moved your front licence plate from the stock position to the bumper. Thinking about doing that myself, but then smoothing the stock position.

Re: 1971 Fastback KBY 217K winter 2016 tidy up

Well this woodworking malarkey is slow going. I've spent 2 weekends and nearly an hour each night with not much to show for it. So I've done my speaker pods and carpeted them Made brackets for the bamboo shelf, welded a nut one end of a strip of metal and a hole in the other so that I can secure it ...
