Re: What's going on after spark plug change?
Ok..just had a play after work.. All of the pipework looks fine.. But..I now remember that I messed around with the 2 little metal tabs on the rods that actuate the flaps on the tube that comes from the air filter towards the rear of the car. Apologies..hope this is making sense but not really sure ...

Re: What's going on after spark plug change?
Yes..it's an afr gauge.
So, maybe worth trying new ht leads.
Where is the balance pipe?
Appreciate the help.
Think it must be something basic as it has always run like a Swiss watch!

What's going on after spark plug change?
Hi all. Just replaced the spark plugs on my fastback.. got the scratched knuckles & wrists to prove it! Also changed the oil in my air filter. Used it to work a couple of times and it drives sweet but has been ticking over a bit lumpy. Took it for a drive today and it's backfiring a bit under load. ...

Ryde, Isle of Wight Ok..was just gonna say that I have a 68 fastback too and you would have been welcome to take a look for reference purposes..but I am in the West Midlands.. and you are in Ryde..bit far away! Although will be in Ryde at Easter..but not in the fastback! Good luck with your project.

Re: 68 fastback - Marko's old car - bits n bobs!
Its a total gem mate. Sold the wife's car a couple of weeks ago..don't like using the fasty in the winter but had to go to work in it then over to view a new car for her...started up straight away after a couple of months, and drove 130 miles in it at zero degrees without missing a beat. May sell yo...

Re: 68 fastback - Marko's old car - bits n bobs!
Hi.
My sprintstars are mws copies and they fit perfect, no rubbing. They came off my mates beetle.
I have 155x15 tyres on front & 185/65x15 on rear.
I did need a pair of 5mm wheel spacers on the front to clear the brake calipers.

Re: Insurance
It's all a bit bizarre to be honest. I have a 64 bus - the insurance for this is quite reasonable - it's with Footman James. Every year I try FJ for a quote for the fastback, and they are really expensive? The Fastback is insured with Heritage - or at least it was until I have just swapped to Lancas...

Insurance
Sorry, not really technical matter, but my Fasty ins is due and it seems to have gone up a fair bit since last tear. i am with Heritage & they are quoting £128 this year for £10k agreed value (no breakdown). Just wondered if people are paying this much & can anyone recommend any good companies. Than...

any line up at Big Bang
Hi to those who are in the club's organisation dept!
Off to Big Bang for the day this Saturday, probably in my type 3, and just wondered if there was any kind of club type 3 display/line up?
I realise it's a a bit short notice but only just got back from holiday this afternoon.
Thanks.

Re: new wheels catching - ok to grind down the caliper?
Mark - you may have a point. Had a look today - there is no damage to the inside of the wheel, so i'm happy its not a wheel rubbing issue. If you turn the wheel back and forth with the car jacked up, there is a slight 'knock' when you stop and re-start. There is also some play in the wheel bearings ...

Re: new wheels catching - ok to grind down the caliper?
Thanks guys - will check at the weekend and report back. I've just had a quick rock of the wheels and they seem rock solid. I'm pretty sure the discs are warped as I remember the sensation of the brakes going on and off a little when braking with the original wheels on. the back of the alloys I put ...

Re: new wheels catching - ok to grind down the caliper?
Been a while since I posted this thread up, but just started to use the car more now the weather's getting better. When I first used the car after the winter, I noticed that there was a notchyness coming through the steering wheel when I brake, like a 'pulsing'. I put this down to rusty discs, or so...

Re: Why are there 2 thick wires going to my starter?
Checked it over again this morning - turns out I had allowed the thick main wires to rotate a bit too far as I was tightening up the nut & one of these wires must have turned round far enough to touch the plate for the relay operating wire so there was a permanent feed to the solenoid. Rotated the w...

Re: Why are there 2 thick wires going to my starter?
It does, many thanks David, but.. Fitted it back on today - 2 large wires to the bolt connector plus the spade - as soon as I reconnected the battery, the starter operated - no key in the ignition or anything, just reconnected the battery. I have had the starter fully reconditioned - could it be fau...

Why are there 2 thick wires going to my starter?
Hi all, Just taken my starter off to have it reconditioned. 68 auto fastback. Looking at the couple of wiring diagrams I have come across on the internet, there looks to be a smaller wire with a spade terminal - think this is from the starter switch as a 'trigger', then a thick wire from, I assume, ...

why does my stereo go off when I flash my lights
Hi all,
Like the title says, my stereo goes off when I flash my lights? It then comes back on, when I release the main beam.
Any ideas why - don't think the stereo runs off the same fuse as the main beam?
Thanks
