T3 Floor Pan Dimensions

Post by skin69 » 20th April 2015 - 7:39pm

Hi All

I've lurked in the shadows for many years & ashamed to admit my T3 has been garaged for 10 years or so but only due to cash flow. I'm thinking of selling my T2 to fund my restoration & bank some cash BUT!!!!

Has anyone made there own floor pan?
I'm considering making my own but will keep the spine & ends, if that makes sense.
I'd be keen to look at any pics, plans, or generally discuss if anyone has or if it's sensible.

Cheers Nige..

Hi Nige,
Unless you're a skilled fabricator with a workshop full of kit I don't think scratch building a set would be easy, or cost effective.
Another option though if you can't justify the excellent Klassic Fabs pans is to modify T14 Karmann Ghia pans to fit.
They are the same width and overall length, just the inner wing profile (dogleg) and rear body joint and outer seat runner are different.
They're usually about £125 a side I think.

Thanks for the info Mike & worth a look but it's not just the price.
I like the idea of making or getting made a box section ladder framework & sheeting the floor.
It just seems a little more one off & it would allow me to fit my own set up inside.
I feel it would last a lifetime & may allow me to configure my own cill set up (may be outer only) as the strength is in the floor.
Just playing with ideas & options at the beginning of the project.

Pop over to the ace www.the-ace.org.uk website and have a look at chassis and monocoque modification and have a read of the information. It would be easier and quicker to replace the pans.

Thanks for the info, there's some useful detail on there.
I'm still considering it though?
