VeeWee

Post by Wireless » 25th September 2015 - 9:52pm

Hi All,

I've requested that VeeWee list their present air cooled parts list for fitment to Type 4 411/412 vehicles, since the 411/412 shares the same parts bin and it would make sense if they supported these models.

They may approach the Type 3 & 4 Club for help in doing so, not sure if anyone has the time to do this, but if they do support the 411/412 then perhaps it'll make life a bit easier for owners sourcing parts.

I think that's expecting a lot from them. Obviously there are quite a few bits for the engines as they were used for Type 2s from '72 alongside the upright 1600 (not at the same time!). Not much of the body are common. There's a list of parts extracted from a suppliers catalogue who were taken over by GSF way back, on the Technical info website at http://home.clara.net/hallvw/partswap.htm which will let you see what VW parts from other models fit. There are a few things that can be sourced from other cars outside the VW range, but there may be other compatible parts not listed.

If they do I hope they make a better job of it than the Type 3 section, where Beetle rear drums fit and one distributor cap fits all years...

I wish I could remember the parts group that the data came from. I've the booklet somewhere - got it from Jay years ago - but after several storage revisions, I'm not sure where it is.
I'm not sure that supporting Type 4s does make commercial sense, and while I've heard you can get anything for a Porsche through their parts department, most things cost an arm and a leg!

Wish I had read this sooner, Using gsf's endless sale I bought a pair of drums, rear drums (brembo) at 35% off. about £60 the pair delivered How could I resist! Needless to say I found myself rather disappointed when a pair of beetle drums turned up. First chap on the phone wouldn't accept the website was wrong and wanted me to pay the return postage. So I hung up and the second bloke believed Im right and they sent a van to pick them up, giving me a full refund.

I didn't order drums but shoes and got the right thing. Mind you they did lose a sale on a pair of beetle calipers at £125 ish before discount when the same item on the gsf bay was around £97 to start with.
