Type 3 centre pull throttle linkages

Post by Wireless » 31st December 2015 - 12:28am

Hi,

Just searched the archive but not found any reference to this

The ball and socket joints on my control rods seem to be loose with wear, and tend to fall off on occasion, reducing me to driving with one carburettor, and whilst this may be more economical, clearly it's inefficient.

Does anyone have a link to sourcing new replacements, secondhand replacements, or any effective repairs that can refurbish the original parts?

I've really no idea where I can get these.

In anticipation, thanks everyone

Some none type 3 specific suggestions Wayne.

Cn you determine if it is the ball, the socket or both that have worn. If it's the ball then you will probably be able to source a ball from another vehicle (type 2 ?), remove and then solder in place on your own connecting rods. If it's the socket, and you can't source a replacement then try adding some material (chemical metal) to reduce the play.

First thing to try would be a jolly good clean in solvent- There's a teeny spring clip inside the Female ends that may have become gunked up with 40+years of congealed grease/crud.
If that doesn't help You, Ebay is probably Your best bet.
Search "Rose Joints" on Here for Chino's thread referring to the alternative that a PO had fitted to His car

Ebay is full of suitable rose joints-You just need to measure the thread of the linkage rods
Heritage list them, but a whopping £15 each

I believe ISP make reproduction ones as well, if you wanted to keep it looking original. If you want any pics of a rose jointed one I can get some, whilst not original, the DIY one on mine looks fairly solid in comparison to the original.
