Glass Type 3 & 4

Post by Wireless » 2nd June 2016 - 12:40am

Has anyone got details of a supply of second hand glass initially for a 411/412 Variant?

What sort of prices would I be having to pay for the various second hand glass?

I realise you can still get new front windscreens.

Cheers.

Most people keep a spare set!
Jane & Bryan would be Your first port of call for Type 4 parts
Next would be Jim Bourne

As Confirmation that You've found the right parts, Dimensions are Here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5253&hilit=glass+dimensions

Well I'm looking for a screen and left and right door glass.

Are the people you mention listed on this forum?

I've been in contact with Pilkington Auto Glass, and obviously they still do new windscreens for both type 3 & 4, but for door glass, side glass, and rear hatch they only make straight glass replacement unless I can provide 'tooling', and as you're aware, type 4 side and rear glass does have some curvature.

I'm assuming this means I would have to supply them with an original piece of glass to enable them to make new glass to the same specifications and am awaiting their response to explain 'tooling'.

I've asked for a unit price, but they would be able to provide tinted and shaded options as well, so if anyone is interested in new glass, with tinting, shaded bands, etc, I may get some provisional prices and then possibly arrange to send original glass to Pilkington to get new ones made, so send me a PM.

Cheers,

Wayne

Yes, But Jim isn't particularly internet savvy & Jane & Bryan are generally too busy
Jane & Bryan can be found under "Volksfarmers" http://www.volksfarmers.co.uk/
Jim is Our President( Barbara's Husband)- details at bottom of page here:viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29
It would seem fairly unlikely that You'd be able to generate enough interest to warrant New items being made

I think if they made the tooling they'd only need to make them as and when someone wanted to buy one, they make new straight side glass for £140 approx, so I imagine proper curved side glass would be around that price each, but I've yet to get this confirmed.

There are hardly any cars in this country Wayne- Not much point in pilkingtons making the tooling.
Give it a few days/weeks for people to respond, or pm people Who You know have Type 4's.
I'd be very surprised if Jane & Bryan didn't have the bits You need, & I'm equally sure people like Shawn, Clifford,Judy etc would have them. Jim will also.

Lets not knock the idea yet, lets see what Pilkington have to say, I'll not knock it on the head just yet.

In the meantime, if anyone is reading this, I need a windscreen and both door glasses, PM me please.
