Engine Dilemma

Hi All,

I've seen a notch for sale, which I thought at first ticked all the right boxes and then discovered the engine has been replaced to a later 1600 dual carb at some point. If I wanted to replace this with an original 1500 dual carb, how difficult would this be and how easy would it be to obtain an engine.. Any ideas on cost..

The 1500 was a 6V car; almost all 1600s are 12V (except I believe in some markets where the 6V lingered a year or two more). Depending on whether your car has been converted to 12V you may need to change the coil and carb chokes. The flywheel has a different number of teeth on the starter ring, and the starter motor bush in the bell-housing is different for 6V and 12V. So it depends on what was changed to install your 1600 engine. It's all bolt on stuff AFIK
Just a note, the 1500 S was a bit fussy on fuel grade. The 1600 is back to the lower compression ratio, so not fussy. You may find it very hard to get a 1500 S engine to replace the 1600.

I have a complete 1500s longblock for sale if that helps. Also a '64 only distributor for a 1500s. It has been disassembled so can easily be checked over and put back together.
