Post by 71 London fasty » 20th April 2007 - 12:56pm

Hello all, just wanting to pick your brains about the winder mechanism. Is it the same as that on a beetle? All the sunshine's been making want the luxury of open windows! :D

It's totally different.
The type 1 and 2 use a cable ststem. the type 3 uses a gear and arm style.
If you need one let me know.

Mike.

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. I think the previous owner of my car may have a couple he can send to me, but if not I may well be interested as neither of my windows open at the moment :( . How much would you be asking?

They are not mine, they belong to a friend who had a Type 3 for a short while. I think they are the only parts he has left.
I'll pm you his details...

Mike.

They're quite robust, the gear stuff. If you take off the panel, it may become obvious where the problem is.

The channel on the window sometimes rusts - that is the same as a pre-64 Beetle, but they're not too thick on the ground!

I have some winders if that is the problem, but not the channels.

The felt surrounds soometimes rust and stop the glass running free. You can get those from classic car trim places - eg Woolies and East Kent Trim supplies (or similar name - E K Vintage?).
