Re: Dizzy problems
Then I would be looking at the wiring diagrams, and in particular the ignition switch. It's possible that something internally has gone wrong in the switch.
Otherwise ensure the connections to the switch are as required - there are a number of wiring diagrams available on this site

Also make sure the earthing strap from engine/gearbox is connected - it could be an earthing fault. Lack of the earth return does funny things. Also check you've got the ignition to terminal 15 on the coil, not 1. I've heard of people losing the ignition when engaging reverse because the coil was connected back to front and the power was going through the reversing lights instead. Probably not the problem here, but worth mentioning I think.

Was body off resto and old Haynes had been butchered and patched with a rats nest of bits and pieces and pieces
Re: Dizzy problems
ah ok so it wasn't because of an existing fault. So it worked before and now doesn't? it does sound like the ignition switch isn't wired up properly. There is a terminal that will be live with the key in the on and start postion. and that one needs to connect to the ignition live? Do you have wiring diagrams? If not ill share some links if you cant find them on google. And where are you? if its local I can always have a look.

Re: Dizzy problems
That sounds like the common fault of wear with these Ignition Switches. Try releasing the Key a bit when cranking it over. Sometimes when fully over to the cranking position the contacts are lost. Release the Key a bit and the contacts made again.
