New radio in my car

Post by 937carrera » 29th September 2018 - 5:50pm

Just a quick post showing the new radio in my 412LS. It was one recovered and now reused from the old gentlemans garage sale earlier this month.

Fits in nicely, looks period, but it taok a bit of fettling to get it to fit. I think the 412 dash is a bit thicker than Blaupunkt intended. Some temporary electrical connections too as I wanted it fitted today before I go off to http://www.dubsintdales.co.uk/ tomorrow.

I'm going to try an locate a user manual for it, not that it's complicated, but I have never had a short wave radio before. No idea what I may find :D

I thought people may appreciate seeing it in use, even if the photo is as bit grainy - taken indoors

Cheers

I've been reading around trying to find manuals etc. It seems this is a "Super ARI" version, ARI being an earlier analogue version of RDS which was switched off in 2005. Top end equipment, original spec in Porsche 911 and some Mercedes from '76 to '79 from what I have read. UHF/FM is working fine, but no success with LW/MW/SW yet.

The green temp control is indeed for the Eberspacher heater. Standard in the type 4 as the heat exchangers were pretty much useless. I haven't got round to recommissioning that system yet so no heating at all in mine.

That radio looks spot on. What model did they fit in the 412? I`ve got the hole and it needs filling but unsure which model to look for.

No problem, just remember, that's what was fitted in my car, certainly never changed since '91 so I'm just assuming original fitment.

I am, I also used to buy Everyday Electronics and built a transistor radio with components on a wooden board with brass cup washers. Veroboard was very new and expensive :)

Tell kids that today and they won't believe you. I admit I was very young, not yet in double figures ;)

I assume you are thinking about the lack of reception on the AM bands. I suspect it is some common component on the AM reception circuit as there is no crackle at all. To be honest I'm just glad to have a radio in the car again :) FM is fine it's what I would listen to anyway.

If I get the time I might take it out again and have a nosey inside, as always suggestions welcomed.

:)

Just followed that link, looked at other sections and noticed that he also had a satellite section and a design for a chip programmer. I remember good times messing with that stuff too.

If you want a '70s thread, here's one we did earlier, in true Blue Peter style :) http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 2ed8dba103
