If it is the same as mine then it is a BA4.

There are some usefull trouble shooting links for it around but I still can't get mine to fire 100% of the time.

I'd say these are not worth much as they will fit, without lots of work, only into 411 or 412 and if your car is a type 4 you really have to get all the components with the heater if you are going to fit it into your car.

Here's a pic of a freshly restored BA4 heater:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_ ... _id=103137

The BA4 heater's been designed to work together with type4's heat exchangers and not alone. It's located under the cargo area, on top of the gear box and I would say it would require a lot of work to make it fit somewhere else in a car (if you are going to fit it into a type 3 or any other VW).

It's very important to get all the components whith the heater, when buying -I'd say you should have all the wiring (also those inside the car), relays and safety switch, the timer/heat regulating switch from the dash board, fuel pump (this is important as the pump works with impulses it gets from the coil and blower points). Also check the heater has glow/spark plug intact as it's unique for BA4 and BN4 models. Oh, and then there is the blower in the engine bay that blows pre-heated fresh air through the heatexchangers to the heater...

I'm not saying it's impossible to fit this heater to another aircooled VW, but this heater hasn't been designed to be fitted as a bolt-on optional extra like BN2 for a Bug. This heater was a standard equipment in the type 4 cars so it's designed to be a part of the cars heating system.

You also need to find space for a gas bottle.
