I slide the seat as far forward as it can go but can't find anyway of releasing it from it's runners??
need some advice if anyone can help?

Are they 3 point runners?
Get your head in the footwell with a torch & all will be revealed!
At the back of the centre mount, theres a sprung tab you need to push down.

If it's not 3-point, (up to middle of '72) there's a flat spring near the front of the inner runner on the tunnel that needs pushing down to let the stop plate slide over and off.

Yes, piece of cake - unless they're rusty. Take care of the plastic runners - they're quite expensive to replace, although I believe they're actually reproducing them now so not the dizzy price they once reached.
