Despite everything I have on my plate just now I went weak at the knees at the thought of this car.
It's located only half-an-hour from me so I called the garage and spoke with a rather puzzled owner. His son place the ad and then disappeared on a cycling weekend but I've garnered some basic details.
I'm told that the car has been in the family for about 20 years and, after being used less and less, was finally taken off the road about 3 or 4 years ago. It is now under a tarp at the back of the workshop which is why there's no photograph in the ad. It's 'N' Reg.
So I'm guessing that the MOT expired 3 years ago and it may well have been sitting on deflated tyres so, even in good condition, it would seem slightly over-priced?
I'm making arrangements to go and view the car early next week and will report back.

If it's only been out of use 3 years and kept dry, I wouldn't be surprised if it needed very little to get it back on the road, and £1500 might easily be reasonable. But then again.....

I had a look at this ca this afternoon and it's a project, although very little would need doing to get it roadworthy. It is certainly far too good to break for parts and the present owner knows that. The bodywork is generally good although the seams are going around the front hood and engine lid edges. I also pushed a hole into the floor at one of the front corners, but that wouldn't be an MoT fail.
The front inner wings have been repaired well and the outer wings were replaced in steel a few years back and are in excellent condition.
He said that one or more of the brakes were seized and it has been sitting on deflated tyres, so those would need to be replaced.
Otherwise it's in excellent shape. Unfortunately, I have too much on my plate just now and can't really afford the price he's asking ... and he won't negotiate.

Looks like a lot of car for £1500.
By project, do you mean there's more work needed underneath than the hole in the floor? I know there can be suspect areas around the front and rear subframes, under the thick underseal.
So 4 new tyres, a small hole repaired and brakes unseized is all that seems to be needed?
Sounds an excellent prospect if you want a 4-door Type 4 Sedan.

I agree, it's very good value for money if anyone wants a car like this. The brakes would only take a day to fix once you'd got the parts and the rest would not be reason for an MoT failure. It's been well looked after and you can see the black blanking plugs each end of the pristine door sills where it has been waxoiled.
I would say that all the inner wings are sound and I couldn't feel any trouble spots around the rear subframe. The bottom edge of the engine lid is bubbling on the inside but the outside is still good. The front edge of the front hood is similar, although I did note that the paint was a different colour along the front 3 inches, suggesting a respray over an earlier repair.
I'm busy right now moving house (I got an offer yesterday!) and my partner would never forgive me if I took this car on just now!
