Gearboxes and compatability
Gearboxes and compatability
Is there an alternative IRS gearbox that can be used please - ie beetle/bus etc ? - I have an IRS Squareback.
Re: Gearboxes and compatability
Any particular one to retain the gear ratios and do I need to change the nose cone or anything else please?
Re: Gearboxes and compatability
Depends what code you have now.

1303s will have a longer 4th gear than 1303, not sure how it compares to stock Type3 box though..

I think it's a DC at the moment. I will check and let you know.
Re: Gearboxes and compatability
You'll at least need the shaft dimple drilled to be on the underside for the coupler, or maybe change the hockey-stick over. Anyone confirm that's possible?

Re: Gearboxes and compatability
Chris Cross VW specialist in North London, put a 1303s gearbox into my fastback 6 years ago.
He said it needed some fettling. Can't be more specific than that I'm afraid. Still works.
There's a gearbox for a squareback up for sale on ebay at the mo.
