They used to do Demolition Derbys at VW Action at Stoneleigh in the '80s. There's a video of a Type 3 Variant and a couple of Beetles cavorting round the main ring, crashing into each other. Rather disturbing. It's about as pointless as the "engine blow" events that seemed to come in at various shows around the same time.

I cant believe people were allowed to take the family car around the nurburgring without seat belts, there's a car load of lucky sods in a Beetle Cabriolet that stayed on four wheels, times certainly change.
