Clear 412 front indicators........

Post by wolfie308 » 28th January 2014 - 10:08am

Morning all,

This is my first post by way of an introduction. For the last 8 years or so, I have been making a growing range of clear(and red) lenses most of which are unavailable elsewhere...

These are for the Porsche 924 and early 944s

The reason for my post is because I have been in conversation with a Norwegian 412 owner who has approached me with regard to making clear front indicators, and I'm currently trying to assess the viability of this project. The above lenses are a similar shape but a bit smaller than the 412's.

I understand that these were originally made for the Italian market and are as rare as hen's teeth.

So my question is - would they be of any interest to owners here?

All feedback would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,

Richard

I'd most likely buy a pair.

If you're making them, I think offering red and amber options would be a good idea too, indeed, why not the rear clusters as well, since no-one else is re-manufacturing them at the moment.

I think keeping or obtaining spares is always going to be an issue with the Type 4.

Whilst I personally wouldn't be interested in clear indicators, I agree that having a source for front & rear lenses in original colours would be great, as they can make a surprising change to the look of a car .

I am very interested in a set for my 74 412. Are you up for creating another pair?

I never made them due to a lack of interest, but I'm happy to revisit if there is. If the moulds were made, I could then make the lenses in smoke, red or amber. Amber would need a bit of trialling to achieve the right tint/shade, but easily achievable.

I understood this Norwegian guy needed at least ten people to make the idea of clear lenses viable, and even then the pair of lenses might be £110, he couldn't find the ten people.

Certainly clear lenses would be attractive, although as I'm going down the route of having running lights within these indicators, I might have trouble sourcing amber 21/5W dual element bulbs to suit, although clearly £110 a pair isn't going to attract many, if they were something like £40 or less for a pair, then owners might be more inclined.

All depends on how big the market would be, cheers.

It was me who was checking this opportunity out, I would be in for 2 sets if anyone else will be interested in joining me. I have a mate who would also buy two sets...
