FRONT BRAKE PIPES ?

Post by FASTY72 » 13th October 2014 - 8:56pm

Hi I am putting my Fastback back together after restoration/re spray. the front brake pipes from the brake fluid reservoir are part metal pipe and part low pressure hose. I have cleaned up the metal sections but the hoses linking them could do with replacing. Any suggestions where to get this hose from would be great, also how does it fit together is it just pushed together or fixed somehow. the old ones are just pushed on but they seem a tight fit. I realise they are low pressure but they still need to fit together so they don't leak brake fluid.
Cheers if you can help.

It should seal ok if its just pushed on a decent amount.

Just a note, don't be tempted to use fuel hose - it may last a year, but will fail suddenly and leave you stranded! Don't ask me how I know!

For Brake Fluid it has to be EPDM Hose (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) inner tube with aramid reinforcement.

To prove it for myself, as I had Petrol Hose of the correct size, I tried putting some in a glass jar full of Brake Fluid. It just dissolved !

When I did the Variant I managed to get proper Blue Hose but only slightly later when I did the Beetle it had all changed to Black. The Blue does look better.

The only Blue stuff I have found recently is NOS in the USA. Even the LP Brake Hose from Heritage is Black now.

I bought this on ebay. It is Black but it is the correct materiel for Brake Fluid
