New Bonnet release cable ?
New Bonnet release cable ?
While trying to adjust the bonnet catch today we managed to snap the cable of the bonnet release. Luckily the bonnet is open. Any idea where the best place to get a new one for a 72 Fastback is ? had a quick look but can only see early ones for £16. I need the one that attaches to the lever in the glove box.
Cheers

Shame that's happened, but at least the lid wasn't down.
The part number seems to be a Type 4 part, 412 823 531 but I don't think they're readily available. However it is basically just a piece of piano wire running through the nylon sleeve, with a button on the end, so you may do as well measuring the diameter and length, and buying a suitable length of similar thickness piano wire. You may need to be a bit creative to fix the end at the lever.
The alternative is a glove box with lever and cable intact, but the nylon sleeve tends to split as it ages, and the glove boxes are often pretty dirty or damaged.
If you have to remove the glove box, there's an extra fastener fixing it in, which needs to be replaced or the box with gradually become damaged every time the bonnet is released. When checking the latching, remove the spare wheel and the well so you can release it if things go wrong. If you need to adjust the latch, the latch pin has a locking nut to slacken, and can then be turned by the slotted end.
http://www.vwispwest.com/412823531.html have had them, but are out of stock! Not cheap at $30 plus shipping. Looks like a steel 'button' or small nut soldered or welded onto the end of the wire would do it.

It's not got the right end anyway. I haven't got a Beetle parts book to see. Sorry, don't know!

I used some brake outer cable housing from the bike shop . Works great and won't crack .
